Chances at Carnegie Mellon and similar schools? Short and easy, ill chance you back!

Carnegie Mellon, Rice, UCLA, Colgate, Trinity College (for math/business)

Junior

PSAT 223 (Nation Merit Scholar), first SAT 2100 (1430 composite, 800 math) but i took it again expecting 730+ CR and another 800 in math

4 years soccer (2 varsity) 5A school

I have been working in a CPA's office for the past couple of months doing accounting, and will continue until i leave for school. He and his friends i have done work for (including the number 2 divorce lawyer in all of houston) are willing to write great recs for me.

I am doing ALL AP/IB classes at my high school and am an IB diploma student

GPA is about 4.2 weighted, about 3.3 unweighted (I know pretty bad, but ALWAYS straight As in math)

Havent taken SAT IIs, but all practice tests i have gotten an 800 (have taken some math I and IIs)

Do you think if i work hard and make straight As my first semester senior year and write wonderful essays that i can be accepted to some of the above schools? What about ED at CMU?

bump please post if you view it would be very very helpful

For CMU it depends on which school you apply to. Some like CS are harder than others.

What’s your class rank?

Yes class rank is important and which school you apply to for CMU. You’re ECs are fantastic, with solid internships and work experience, as is the tough schedule.

Your UW is low, but as you said, you’re very good at Math. I think that you will raise your SAT score to your desired amount and you stand a decent chance to the tough schools on your list.

You are clearly strong in math, but “weak” in other academic areas, intersting to see how colleges will respond to that. Good luck!

Chance back, please!

UW GPA is your weakness I think. Trying doing ED to a school, it could possible give you an advantage. Also a 2200+ SAT would give you a much better chance.

Thanks a bunch guys this is really helpful

My rank is about top 15% (class of 1000+)

That’s a ton of kids in your grade!!! This sounds good for your application; boost your SAT a bit, try to raise the UW GPA, and you have a good chance! :)

Ok thanks a bunch!

Carnegie Mellon - Match
Rice - Match
UCLA - Reach
Colgate - In
Trinity - In

Go to my thread, chance an average kid

Trinity- Safety, in
Colgate- Match
UCLA- OOS?? Reach
Rice- Reach
CMU- With ED, Match

Haha yes its out of state. And i know rice is a bit of a reach but my parents went there and my grandfather is a professor there and i spend a lot of time there and i love it so my “why rice?” essay should be pretty good. Thanks a bunch!

Oh really? In that case Match! Get your grandfather to get you in man!

Haha i totally will. CMU is my top choice, but Rice is my second. It would be my first, the only “problem” is that ive grown up about 6 blocks away from it and it wouldnt be a big change. But if i dont get into CMU im gonna go to gramps to get into rice lol

bump bump please post some input if you view

what about wakeforest?

anyone else wanna put in some input? thanks to everyone who posted

bumpity bump bump

bump anyone else wanna chance me?

Good shots at all but Rice. Rice is a slim shot. It’s like the Harvard of Texas, as a friend once told me.

I wish you the best of luck.

I don’t think you’re going to get in because of your GPA. A lot of kids have straight A’s in math and also high GPAs. Try some other schools sorry.

GPA is killer ;~;
Otherwise your ECs are good… Perhaps you can try to take some classes over again during summer at a local college? I know some places can replace your GPA for the class but some don’t give that option…
