Chance for EA Georgetown College, other top schools please!!

Hey guys, I've already posted once for Georgetown but now I've decided to apply only to the College rather than the Walsh School of Foreign Service, just because of how difficult it is to get in. I'm of mixed race and fluent in both English and Chinese, which I hope will give me an edge in my application. Also, my father attended Dartmouth so will the legacy help me in getting in? Thanks

1) Georgetown EA
2) Tufts
3) Cornell
4) UPenn
5) Northwestern
6) BC

Thanks!!

Your numbers seem to be a bit weak. Georgetown doesn't consider the writing, so to them you have is a 1360. I don't know about Georgetown, but some people say SAT IIs taken in a native language aren't taken as seriously. Your GPA seems a tad low, but how is it compared to your peers'? What's your rank?

Other than that, everything seems great. You have a clear passion for music, and the UN Haiku, and Chinese articles definitely won't hurt esp. for Georgetown.

Tufts is a second choice? That tells me that you're into international relations. Why not try for SFS? (or I just might be a selfish EA College applicant too that wants less competition T_T)

This is what I think (but I don't really do this much):
Reach: UPenn, Cornell, Georgetown
Reach-Match: Tufts, Northwestern
Match: BC

Yes, I'm very much into international relations and schools like Tufts and Georgetown have great programs for study abroad, I'm surprised you caught that!

My GPA is very high for my school, considering it is one of the top in the nation, and pressure to get into top schools and ivies is very high so I would say my rank is somewhat high

SOMEONE ELSE PLEASE??!!

OK, so 3.86...and 1360.
Mixed race Caucasian/Asian isn't going to be an advantage, at least, not a significant one.

Fluent in Chinese is really cool – and test scores back that up, which is really really good...otherwise they'd have no proof.

What are your APs?

Also consider Fordham's IR and IR-related programs...tons of solid schools have great IR programs.

My AP's are listed , five this year, one last year (Psychology - 4) which is pretty much as much as my school allows

So do I have a realistic chance at all of my preferred colleges?

Only 1 AP last year might hurt you, unless you couldn't take any others.

Definitely compare your numbers to the SAT mid-50% ranges by category (i.e. range for math, range for CR) for all those schools. If those check out, then you're going to be fine.

Right, thanks a lot for the advice!

Sungchul is so rude. A 3.86 is not low.

bump anyone :)

Sorry if I offended you. It's just that most kids on CC usually bust out the 4.0 and I got used to it, but it should be OK if your school is one of the good ones.

lol it's fine, I know there are plenty of people who pressure themselves greatly for GPAs that high but I hope my 3.86 is high enough!

Anyone else PLEASE?! I would really like realistic feedback before EA...

Go for it!

Reach: UPenn, Cornell, Georgetown
Reach-Match: Tufts, Northwestern
Match: BC
Sungchul is offline

These predictions are far off. Of these 5 schools, if we were to rank these schools based on SAT scores, NU and Penn would be the top 2, and then followed by Tufts, Cornell, and Gtown.

Although you have excellent credentials and extracurriculars, I do not think you will be able to stand out from all the other qualified applicants who apply to those top schools (except for BC). If you truly love those schools, apply becauase you can never tell

I visited Georgetown two days ago and took a nice tour and now I'm in LOVE with it, so I really hope I can get in...care to agree or disagree?!

Another school similar to Georgetown is Holy Cross-top30 lac. HC has one of the strongest alumni networks and has strong grad school placement.

Holy Cross was actually founded by the Georgetown Jesuits in 1843 and is the oldest Jesuit College in New England. The schools are very similar exept that Holy Cross is strictly undergraduate. 45 minutes from Boston and Providence.

You are competitive for Georgetown, Cornell and Boston College and Tufts. Penn is a reach and Northwestern unlikely if applying RD. Dartmouth legacy has nothing to do with any school except Dartmouth. All of your choices, including BC, Cornell and Tufts are hard. You need some safety schools. Georgetown College will be easier, but still highly competitive, than SFS. Most important is how your application is written as you have strong stats re:SATs but weak SAT 2s.
