@collegequeeni hmm wow that’s really interesting! Actually better for me haha! Thanks for the input. Also, do you guys think it would be a bad idea to talk about my “hook” in my commonapp essay? Because as of right now, since I had to do one for school, it is a story from me in childhood talking about how i used to build things when i was 5, to how it carried over to today. Would that be a good enough essay (and should i tweak to make 2 versions: one business focused, and the other engineering focused [which it really is now])?

Honestly, you are a phenomenal candidate at any of the schools you listed, and each and every one of them would be damn lucky to have you. The Ivies + MIT are reaches for everyone, but you have a real shot at all of them. What you’ll need to be tasked with in crafting your application is to make sure you pick one or two of your ECs and really showcase them in your application. If you have the ability to make such an investment, I would recommend looking into finding a good academic counselor to help you with your case. I honestly think you could capture any admissions officer if you pull your application together in the right way. I wish you the best of luck, and congratulations for getting as far as you have!
If you could chance back, I would be very appreciative!

thank you! Good advice
and i sure will chance back.

also, @penprospect, is there another option, or do a workaround to applying ED, because, my parents won’t let me apply binding, because they don’t want to be “stuck” financially with a school, because they want to see what the best offer is that I get money-wise.

Your independent research is the lynchpin. Colleges eat that up you should be so glad you did that.

We had a kid get into Harvard from our school with similar (maybe slightly worse) credentials than you so, yeah.

They are still a reach for everyone, but good luck!

@knicknack thanks haha! what’s a lynchpin??

Boston Coll - Match
Brown Univ (Possible ED!) - Low Reach
Carnegie Mellon Univ - Low Match
Columbia Univ - Reach
Cooper Union - no idea
Cornell Univ - Low Reach
Dartmouth Coll - Low Reach
Harvard College - Reach
Yale - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Johns Hopkins Univ - Highish Match
MIT - Reach

Your scores are good, and your EC’s are absolutely amazing. I think you have an excellent chance at hyp with your list of achievements, but make something out of your essays that reveals some humanity. Your resume is amazing, but it raises some red flags; adcom might suspect that you’re a boring grind. The stuff about you paying for your own livelihood, perhaps the abuse if you’re comfortable talking about it, or the Machinima stint will make excellent, relatable essays. Objectively, you should have an excellent chance at all of your colleges. Now it’s time to work on the subjective bit.

Chance back?: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508837-chance-princeton-upenn-jerome-fisher-ivies-etc.html

thanks! im kinda scared to write about my life bc my parents might read it and get enraged. Should i include that on the supplements or just the main essay?

Get an engineering degree. Sure it will be harder, but honestly your an entrepreneur at heart and you will gain much more with a technical degree over the long haul. You can get an MBA after you get a few years work experience.

@taddyangle hmm thats an interesting point. thay may be true, but i always thought go for the business degree first. I think your way actually makes a lot more sense. thanks :)

Boston Coll - Low Match
Brown Univ (Possible ED!) - High Match w/ ED
Carnegie Mellon Univ - Match
Columbia Univ - Reach
Cooper Union - Don’t know enough to chance
Cornell Univ - Low Reach
Dartmouth Coll - Reach
Harvard College - Reach
Yale - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Johns Hopkins Univ - Reach if applying to BME / High Match otherwise
MIT - Reach

All those reach schools depend on qualitative factors such as recs and essays.

Meh chance me for fun?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1498885-chances-princeton-scea.html

thanks and I did!

Great ECs and stats! (Actually I’m really jealous)

Match for Boston College
High Match CMU
Every where else is a reach for everyone- but I think since you’re doing ED, Brown should be low reach

I’d like to say, and if you do chance back you’ll see this, I am envious of your resume…
That being said, with such high test scores and a that GPA along with your extra curriculars, you are a very competitive candidate for all of these schools. Some like the Ivies are always going to be “reaches” because they are so competitive, but I believe you have a great shot at getting in. Best of luck!

I think that you have a better chance then most; however, your ECs aren’t focused. Try focusing your accomplishments on what you want to be. All the best! By the way, is it possible that you could post where you made it into? That would be so cool.

You should probably get in wherever you want.

sure thing and thanks everybody!

@IvyStruck how should i focus them. like exclude ECs that dont have to do with what i want to do? (probably business)

No, that is ridiculous bmonticello. Include all of them.

so how do i focus them?
