I will work on GPA and weighted GPA and hopefully get them up to 3.9 and 5.0, respectively. I did receive an internship at a local company, but I haven't started yet so I didn't put it up there. I will be doing things over the summer that will help my app. I know teachers that will give me a good rec, so thats covered.
The problem is, I have nothing at all that helps me stand out. I love science, so is there anything I can do concerning that? I am entering a few competitions.
So overall, my top choice right now is Johns Hopkins...do I have a chance? Also, what about other top colleges, like Dartmouth etc? If both don't work, what colleges am I suitable for?
THANKS!!

Pleasseeee help meeee :)

You like science? So does pretty much every other Asian that applies to Hopkins. You need something unique, something that makes admissions officers go “huh?” when they look at your file.
I would encourage you to focus on extracurriculars and standardized tests, because your GPA is on par with top schools already. Just maintain it.
I like the company internship thing. Care to elaborate?

Make sure you become really personal and friendly with your teachers, so they write phenomenal recs. Also, ESSAY. This is where you must shine if you want to go to Hopkins. It’s the subjective parts of the application that bolster the strong objective parts and help the application excel beyond the average pool.

JHU is a good bet if you get the 2250, Dartmouth will be tough with your rank without a stand out EC.

Thanks for replying!
The internship is at a local biotech company.
I have trouble with EC…what can I do? I have absolutely no idea and my college counselor is no help. I realize I am not a unique student, but I am completely clueless as to what to do
What colleges am I suitable for?

I think taking leadership in one of your EC will help a lot and a really strong essay. Your gpa is strong so that should give you a good shot at JHU and Dartmouth as long as you score well on the SAT

I am in a few officer positions, like VP, secratary etc.

I am in 10th grade and I was wondering what are my chances of getting into a UC such as UCSD UCSB UCD UCB and my chances of getting into a CSU such as Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State University?

FRESHMAN(end of year grade): english…A
algebra1…C
PE…A
French1…B
Art…A
Earth/phs science…A(or B)
(i dont remember my first semester gpa for 9th grade but i got between a 2.5 and 3.0 GPA)

SOPHMORE(first semester grade):
English…D
Computer Apps…A
Honors Biology…B
World Cultures…A
Geometry…D
French 2…B
Extra Curriculars: Key Club (community service club) and i have so far 6-8 hours
(the semester gpa was 2.67)

I wondering if i were to raise my GPA to a 3.6 or higher by the end of the school year if i would still be able to get into a UC or Cal Poly (CSU) for mechanical or aerospace engineering. i have high doubts of being able to get into a UC and CSU because i am very conserned about my first semester of 10th grade and 9th grade. I will be looking forward to take all the ap and honors classes i can take for 11th grade if this will help

You can get your GPA up and it will help you because they like an upward trend. However, some branches are very selective. I would suggest you apply to colleges with a mid acceptance rate, because your GPA and ECs aren’t that great (sorry). Try and work REALLY hard on your GPA, do lots of ECs and remember to have a strong essay. There might be a chance for you.

Replyyyy. :)

You have a good GPA. However, I am guessing, you do not attend a very competitive high school. For example, how many National Merit Semifinalists come out of your school every year? My guess is, less than 6. Your standardized test scores i.e. PSAT, SAT II and AP test scores etc also do not seem strong enough for Dartmouth.

Do you have a hook, such as first in family to go to college or first gen. American? Do you attend school with a large population of poor URMs? Also, why are you 15 and a junior?

I actually go to a very competitive high school. VERY.
No hooks, but I skipped 2nd grade when I was studying in India (which is where I was before) and that is why I am 15.

^So, how many National merit semifinalists at your school every year?

We had 5 last year and 7 the year before.
I also meant we are competitive within the school. Didn’t know you meant out of school.

^ In my opinion, if you were a sophomore (as you should have been at age 15) with a PSAT of 202 and all these AP classes, I would have said, you are on the right track. However, you are not a sophomore, you are a junior, with a 202 from an average high school, without the most rigorous courseload in junior year. Therefore, I would suggest applying to top schools, but planning on attending a good local university for two years, then later trying to transfer, if you still want to go to Dartmouth. This will give you enough time to catch up and prove yourself more completely.

This is actually the most rigorous course load I can take because Biotechnology is a required course for me to stay in the academy, and Band is a course I have to take for benefits.
I also forgot to mention that I take 3 extra classes outside of school, and they are hard honors classes.

^ It is hard not to notice that you are taking AP Psychology rather than AP Calculus, when you took Pre-Cal as a sophomore. A 5 on the AP Calculus test would have been a fine way to show case your math. skills. As long as your counselor states that you took the most rigorous course load, it will help. However, a rigorous course load from an average school is not usually enough. So, apply but do not bank on it. The 3 extra classes could help too.

I’m taking Pre-Calc right now. I will be applying for Calc AB next year.
Well see I’ve received different opinions about my course load-some say it is very rigorous, some say that I should have dropped Comp Sci or Psych to take a more important course. But even if I drop them, I have nothing else to take an an AP. That’s why I’m trying to bring my extracurriculars WAYYY up to sort of try and shadow doubts about my course load.

And also, my top choice is JHU right now. I accept that Dartmouth is a stretch.
