Extracurriculars:
Calculus club, 11th-12th
VP for Vietnamese Club, 12th

Desired Colleges: UCI, UCSD, UCD, UCB

Reject everywhere. Your CR/Wr scores indicate to me that you don't speak English well enough to attend any UC school let alone other major institutions in the US. I would focus on learning English and mastering it before applying anywhere.

Berkeley: big reach
UCSD: reach
UCI/UCD: reach

The SAT score is too low, and the ECs are weak. Try to raise the score.

BTW A "California Distinguished School" means nothing, i go to one of these but sadly they send 55-60 percent of people to community colleges. =(

Omg. :( Are you Mexican?

He has ESL and English is his 2nd language! Give him a break! Try taking a German CR SAT test!

Do you think colleges look at apps and say "Oh, English is his second language, give him a break!"

No.

Truth is there are plenty of ESL kids who do awesome on the SAT. Get your scores up, that'll really help you.

And I second what SuperDuper said, Distinguished School sadly doesn't mean much. :(

^^ exactly. I knew a girl at my high school who came to America from Russia and learned English while here -- she did well on the SAT, took many AP classes (including AP English), and had a generally strong app.

I'm not even sure your application will be considered by a UC because they accept only like one year of ESL, if I recall correctly.

A kid at my school last year got into UCI with a 3.9 weighted GPA and like a 1400 SAT score (yes on the new scale)

Don't ask me how, he just did. So you should try applying.

I think you have a half-way decent chance at UCR/UCM. But the whole multiple years of ESL may means you don't meet A-G requirements for the ECs.

I do meet the A-G requirements. For UC's, having ESL for 2 years is bad but they're still going to look at my application. I have a friend who gets to CAL with WGPA: 4.3 SAT:1500. He also has 2 years of ESL like me.

Thank you for your inputs. I'm working on my SAT so I can increase my chances.

UCI-Match
UCSD-Slight Reach
UCD-Match
UCB-Reach

Explain to them your situation. ESL students get A LOT of slack. Take the TOEFL and do well on it also.

Did you get ELC? You're pretty much exactly top 4%.

Because if you did, you might be guaranteed Davis or Irvine, despite the lackluster SATs.

Oh yea, if your in top 4 percent. Guaranteed admissions for CA residents.

I haven't gotten the ELC yet. The top 4% is like rank 30.6 and I'm in 31 so I'm not really sure. The ELC results have been sent out but none from my school has received it. So now i'm praying Buddha that I will get it next week.

Ouch, talk to your GC about it, and see where you stand on the whole thing. He/She probably gets this stuff before anyone else finds out about it.

You still gotta meet a-g requirements.

b l English – 4 years required
Four years of college-preparatory English that include frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature. No more than one year of ESL-type courses can be used to meet this requirement.

Isn't the ELC requirements at this link? http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/local_eligibility.html
I completed my English 10 at the junior year's summer. I hope that would count.
