<p>I am a white male from New Jersey. I speak fluent Russian but can't read or write. I'll also have taken 4 years of Hebrew and 3 years of French when I graduate. </p>

<p>SAT I: 1430/1600, 2180/2400</p>

<p>760 M, 670 CR, 750 W</p>

<p>I took the sat 3 times and those scores are all from my third test. </p>

<p>I have a 94-95.36 (3.9-4.0 I think) unweighted GPA. I go to a private school with a dual curriculum, which includes secular and religious studies. My secular GPA is a little higher than a 94 but my total GPA is a 95.36. My school sends the 95.36, but colleges probably recalculate it. I took 3 AP classes last year (US History, Physics, and English Language and Writing) and I am taking 4 more this year (Bio, BC Calc, Euro, and English Lit). The rest of my classes are all honors. My school doesn't weigh GPA and doesn't rank students. </p>

<p>My school ends at 5:10, not at 2:30, so I don't have nearly as much time to participate in 15 different clubs. </p>

<p>Volunteer:
Friendship Circle (10-12): I am one of ten buddies that spends two hours with a teenager with special needs and we do activities with them. This happens about twice a month in my school. </p>

<p>Work: I've worked in a day camp this summer and last summer</p>

<p>Leadership:
- captain of chess team
- president of pre med society
- head of my division in camp
- I was handpicked by a group of teachers to act as an advocate/mentor to the 8th graders of a middle school and talk to them about the high school experience. We discussed with them how to cope with the difficulties and stress of high school and acted as a guide on how to make the most of their experiences.</p>

<p>My counselor said that my essay was really good and as she put it, "Super!" I should have two very solid recommendations from my teachers. One is from my history teacher who I had grades 10 and 11 and he is the coach of the chess team. The second one is from my math teacher who I have this year and had last year, and he is the coach of the math team. I'm also getting a recommendation from a very close family friend who is a Cornell alumni and gives yearly donations to the school. She said she would write me a very good letter but I don't know how much it will help.</p>

<p>How do my chances look? My school got 1 accepted ED.</p>

<p>Looks good but no incredible “hooks” so in all honesty it comes down to chance. The only way to improve your chance with them is with solid essays. Otherwise you’re just another high GPA/SAT kid that has ambition.</p>

<p>you gotta have something that represents you… just you know, all the applicants to hopkins have incredible stats in terms of testing scores and grades… Thinks about this: Why should I go to Hopkins over other Ivies?? Why should Hopkins choose me over the rest of the applicant pool?</p>

<p>I think you’re pretty solid. You have a good chance, in my opinion, but admissions are essentially random unless you can really blow them away.</p>

<p>Btw- I have the same issue with the dual-curriculum and whatnot. I tried to explain it in a non-whiny fashion on the Addtl Info section of the commonapp. I don’t know if it did anything for me, but I got into a school I shouldnt have had a real chance at, so theres that. Good luck!</p>

<p>Thanks guys anyone else? I did not know I had to request an interview and now it’s too late :frowning: I thought the alumni contact you like they do with the other schools I’ve applied to. Will that affect my chances? I know colleges say that it will not hurt you if you don’t have an interview but can we take them at their word?</p>

<p>Not having an interview will definitely not affect your chances at Hopkins. The Hopkins alumni (and on-campus student) interviews are meant to be primarily informational, and while the interviewer does provide some brief feedback to the admissions office, this is not meant to “make or break” your application. Some colleges take things like interviews and “demonstrated interest” very seriously; Hopkins is not one of these.</p>
