Is Johns Hopkins out of the question?? Will chance back!

Hi! I'm absolutely in love with Johns Hopkins and I was planning on applying ED, however after typing out all of my stats I am beginning to think that maybe it's not even worth a try - I just feel like I'm really underprepared for it and my stats are kind of low, so I was hoping to get some honest opinions as to whether I should try and apply ED or if I should focus on other schools at which I have a better chance. If so, what types of other schools do you think I should focus on? Thank you!

My stats:

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
State: Pennsylvania

GPA: Weighted --> 4.72
Unweighted --> 3.64

SAT Subject tests: taking them in October

Class rank: top 11%

Classes:
Sophomore Year --> Western Civ. Honors (A), English 2 Honors (A), Latin 3 Honors (A), Chemistry Honors (A), AP US Government (B+), Algebra 2 Honors (B)

Junior Year --> AP English Language (B+), AP Physics (B+), AP US History (A), Creative Writing Honors (A), Psychology Honors (A), Latin 4 Honors (A), Trigonometry/Precalc Honors (B)

Senior Year --> (planned) AP Literature, AP Bio, AP Chem, Anatomy Honors, AP Latin, AP Calc AB

Extracurriculars:

Mock Trial (3 years) --> 2 Best Advocate Awards
Academic Decathlon
National Honor Society
Volunteer Tutor (for elementary school kids in my area)
Volunteer at neighborhood Hospital
Ballroom Dancing (2 years) (not competitive)
Sing in my Church Choir for 5 years
National Honor Society Member

Awards/Distinctions:

President's Education Award
Maxima Cum Laude on National Latin Examination (silver medal)
Best Advocate Awards in Several Regional Mock Trial Competitions

Potential Hooks: First generation immigrant, low-income background, bilingual (idk if this is a hook)

These stats and info look really well. I will just work on your sat score and your essay is big factor also. How about your act scores? Overall, you have a chance.

Come back here once you have the June SAT results…

thanks for your input! bumpp for more opinions?? :)

I think your UW GPA might do you in. Try to get in the top 10% - that’s of pretty great importance.

ECs aren’t amazing but they’re okay.

I’d say you have about a 20-30% chance.

Thank you guys! bumppp

Guys I’m sorry! Unweighted GPA I posted is wrong - its actually 3.78!

That’s better. I agree with earlier posts. You should have a chance. Id say 30-50% or low reach

UW GPA is a little low, even with a 3.78, but its around the average applicant imo. I think your hooks are good though, and your weighted GPA is really good. Try to raise that SAT score a little bit, and write good essays, and I think JHU will be a high match. Right now, I’d say it would be a low reach, but it still looks like you’re a strong candidate.

Oh, and if you apply ED AND raise your SAT score, JHU would probably be a match, I think you’d get in.

Chance me back?

So far ur right no shot. Sorry. Come back with sat 2 results and u have to write boss essays

@Sherwoodbrad: That’s an absolutely incorrect thing to say. onerepublic has a fine chance, especially if she pulls up her SAT. Yes, her essays will have to be the bomb, but they’ll have to be for great schools anyway.

I would say your grades and SAT score are your biggest set-backs right now. Focus on raising your SAT scores, and that should help a lot!!! I would say right now, Johns Hopkins would be a reach.

apply ED and I’d say you’d have a pretty good shot. Your SAT and UW GPA is a little low but the fact that you have a high weighted GPA means you took a lot of hard classes. Write banging essays and get good recs and I’ll probably be seeing you in 2 years. Also remember to go to an overnight program in the fall as it will definitely give you a nice perspective of Hopkins and it lets Hopkins know you’re really interested.

To almost everyone else in the thread, if you think that Hopkins can ever not be considered a reach, you do not know what you are talking about. There are some amazing candidates that get turned down every year due to how many great applicants there are. ED is your best bet because Hopkins tends to take a large percentage of its class in ED (making RD VERY selective)

JHU ED: High match (if you managed a 2150+)

You might have a chance for ed as catria said. Just do well on the sat and sat subject tests. Also dont worry you can always transfer to JHU.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514696-chance-me-i-will-change-you-back.html

what do you think my chances are for RD?

bump? anyone?

bumpity bump bump, please?

Your B grades are predictable in English, if it’s your second language. What concerns me about your schedule is two difficult AP science classes and AP calc. That’s your weaker area - why are you doing that? Can you maintain your grades with that schedule?

ED is your best bet - make sure you integrate any language deficiencies and your desire to overcome them through debate. Feel free to pm me your essays if you need help.
