sarora-
I’m going with a bold suggestion: Stanford.
If you can clearly convey your story and work hard on your essay you have a shot at Stanford.
Stanford would love to have an applicant like you- picking yourself up after the death of your father and operating a successful start up with small seed money.
Get trusted people to read your application+essays, make edits as needed and good luck.

My grades were low freshman year and sophomore year because my mother was very sick, I had a younger sister and had a lot of family responsibilities. I manage my time well, I have a 4.0 right now UW.

Anyways, 2-4 clients are rather large - 20K each mainly, and we own two patents for an internal development project to release late '11/2012. Expected profits to top six figures in 2012 with a exponential growth thereafter. We have private, independent analysts rate this. We are looking to IPO by 2016-2018.

The company is in no debt, we have over 100K in secured non equity capital if needed and access to private VC if needed.

It’s not really a learning experience, it’s really a passion - with the experience I would get at a top college I’m looking to expand and go into more investing.

Our investment clients aren’t huge, seed under 100k and the average return is 20%.

I am not too sure about your statement that tons apply and get rejected. Im not sure there are that many true entrepreneurs. I don’t count a backyard venture as a business. Im talking people who registered as a business, have bank accounts, merchant accounts, clients, brokers, credit, etc. are there really that many? What kind of businesses do you run, just wondering?

Oh, and, as far as the death thing, I’m not using it as a hook. I dont want colleges to think “this kid ran his business and thus failed school.” I never thought for a moment that my business > grades. Unfortunately, my father died a few hours after jokingly released from the ER for simple stomach pain. Being a first gen in US… My mom was in depression. She had two one week surgeries and a long recovery during my first two years. I missed 15 or 20 days these years. It was hard, I had family responsibilities. When my sister needed rides and my mother (who, when my father was alive, wanted me to go to an Ivy more than anything) was sick, I quickly stuck with my family. Because family is my first priority. It was not my business.

See, I’m not applying to Harvard, MIT, etc. I am applying to schools with 5-10% in my range GPA. I would have had a 4.0 if my family circumstances were different…I know this is an excuse but it’s true. I had a 100% in Honors Algebra I and a 97% in Honors Geometry in 7th and 8th grades. I had a 76% in Honors Algebra II in 9th grade after my fathers death.

Bump 10 chat - any feedback is appreciated! Also, I’m not profiting 6 figures yet (5 now).

Last bump for tonight, lol. This thread is huge :o.

Hey, you live in PA right?
Have you thought about starting out at a school like Temple, West Chester, Kutztown (in my opinion, Ktown is the best of these, not too big and a lot of intelligent people go there to save money) and then transferring in a year to a more prestigious school? Just a thought.

@Sarora-Since you asked, I have my own microcredit organisation that has given loans in the 6 figure region. It consists of centers in 20 different villages and like most businesses I employ people, have a head office, bank accounts, non-equity capital, the works. Again for more details, I’m one personal message away.I personally respect your decision to not use your social factors as a hook. It shows your character and integrity and I really respect that. The best of look in your future plans and I hope you get into the college of your choosing. :)

Thanks! And I am in PA, I’d probably go to Penn State/UPitt if I was denied, but not for business. Not worth it.

Are you apping for college too nocensure?

bump 10 char

emphasize your company and you’ll def get in. im pretty sure not alot of kids our age has a company…

@sarora-Yeah I am. I’m applying to Harvard for EA. I’m crossing my fingers that I get in. :)As for regular admissions, a few ivies and a few safeties. And I agree with azn. Be sure to emphasize your company by possibly talking about specifics in the additional information section of the common app.

Will do. Good luck, you’ll definitely get into Harvard :). Are you an international student?

Haha, I don’t care if they read it. It’s not a big deal…everyone wants information. If they deny me for posting on CC, then be it.

Bump 10char

If it looks like I’m posting to myself - I’m not. I was replying to another member who deleted his posts.

I don’t think you have good chances at Cornell.
