Chance for the impossible! Super competitive schools with horrendous academics.

Yeah, probably not. But then again, 14% AEM was under 3.5 (~100 students).

ED might happen at NYU…

Thanks, I’ll chance you shortly.

Bump ---------

Since you own your own business, I can see that happening! They want people who they think will be successful! You already ARE! Your GPA isn’t too hot, but I think you have a chance at NYU and the others. Good luck! :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1232794-final-chance-thread-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

My family is made up of overachievers and Ivy graduates. I’ve been hounding them constantly (“What do I need to get in?”) and each of them have told me the same thing - it’s not all 4.0s and 2400s. You need to be /extraordinary./

With such a hard family situation (my condolences) and such a profitable business, I really think that you were what they meant by extraordinary. So why not take the extra step and apply to Wharton, Columbia, etc? No harm in trying, and I actually think you have a good chance.

Yeah, maybe. I love NYC so Columbia would be cool. But no ugrad business, then again they have economics and other majors. Wharton…ahhh I doubt it. By the way, I only make ~20K a year (55% shares owned) and we put a lot back into the company.

Too many supplements! :)

bump -10char

Bump - anything else ?

Mmm. I’m not going to reach/match/etc you, because as many people’ve said before, your profile is completely different from the norm. (Plus, I’m terrible at objectively giving grades like that and I know little about business/finance.) However, what are you going to write your main essay about? If it’s what I think you would with your business experience, I’d say you need to be very careful on how you present yourself. If you come off as someone who’s overbearing or too business-centric, then they aren’t going to want someone who won’t contribute and instead is all wrapped up in their own stuff. Just my two cents.

I start my essay showing my love for technology at a young age, I end the intro with the line “it wasn’t until a tragic family event that I turned my childhood fixation for all things digital into an immovable passion” and then briefly outline my fathers death and how it changed my situation. I go on to say how I began my interest in the field and opened my company, and end with what I learned, how I shaped my personality and maturity and how I want to expand in college.

acedemics arent that bad. chances are low for the first ones but possible, especially NYU

@sarora : Hey I might no be able to chance you. But I’m really interested in what you are doing… I think it’s pretty amazing ! I always wanted to start my own business but dont know where to start… yes… pretty same as yours people ask me why I’m going to college if i’m to pursue my career in my own business…
The niche I’m doing is about publishing and export liquidation… I dont create any products but am really interested in making one
well, do you have skype or soemthing ? I really want to get to know you more…

my chance thread = http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1248301-chance-international-ivys-top-lacs.html</a></p>

@sarora = Alos, I’m really sorry for your loss, I’ve just lost my mother several months ago but I’ll be ever sorrier not to tell this… It’s just an advice though… but the “loss of the loved ones” has been one of the most over-written essay topics in all the competitive application pools… My advice is that it’s better that if your teacher who explains it instead of you…
But if you think it can sincerely portray your world GO AHEAD :)

Piece of advice though : dont try impress the adcoms with your essays, just write them for the pleasure of yourself… Application pools have been filled with essays that deliberately and desperately try impress the adcoms… Many try some gimmicks, phrases ,stories, etc just to deliberately portray certain qualities for the adcoms… It’s all been tried and those people know all !
So, instead, write an essay which will please yourself and your own voice sincerely… dont try to show anything-just be yourself(i know it’s really a cliche)

1) You DEFINITELY have a chance at every school on your list!
2) I know you think that Wharton seems way out of reach, but it’s even more out of reach if you don’t apply! Plus, I don’t think it’s quite as unrealistic as you seem to think. Yeah, your grades weren’t so hot your first few years, and your score is pretty average, but yeah, I would say that your business is some kind of a hook. Also, your 4.0 average NOW will show Wharton (since you’re still taking the hardest classes) that you’re smart enough.
3) In addition to your list and Wharton, I would add Notre Dame (definitely–Mendoza is amazing, and the Notre Dame experience in general is incredible, even if you’re not a football fan :stuck_out_tongue: ), UVa, Villanova, Georgetown, and Michigan. You definitely have a shot at all of them and you’d get a fantastic business education at any. In addition, if you end up not wanting to do business for some reason, all of these schools offer phenomenal science programs and are schools where switching majors across schools is possible and easy.

Good luck!

also I completely agree with patpat that your story will be shown in a better light if your teacher or counselor explains it, rather than yourself–just make sure they do it the way you like (ask if you can review your recs before sending them)

Sure, thanks for the feedback. My GC is writing a rec and mentioning my family situation. The business part is very important to me, and something I would want to portray to colleges in a depth-essay. They concentrate on that essay a lot. It won’t really go into my family situation as I am very aware of the clich

@sarora : nice to hear that… I wish you all the best !

Thank you :)

Hey do you mind letting me know how it goes?
Pm me which schools u get into and we can compare. thanks =]
