Chance for the impossible! Super competitive schools with horrendous academics.

Why even bother going to college if you own a business?

if your running 5 figure profit i dont see why youd go to college. Just expand your company and you should be fine.

So many kids come here to ask if they’ll get into schools their grades don’t support because of special circumstances. There answer is mostly NO.

A quick look at recent posts shows that Sarora will be going to Pitt.

I haven’t read many threads with people I genuinely hoped would get into an ivy league school or someplace like Stanford. Sorry it didn’t work out, but I’m sure that you’ll be awesome at a place like U of Pitt. Maybe one of those big fish in a small pond situations lol? Good luck!

first 5 are unlikely, but with an explanation like the one provided, something might change. the others are good matches. best of luck you to!

return the favor?

I’m sorry I am not that gullible. You have such low statistics and nothing impressive other than the business…which sounds a little bit too good to be true. I can’t imagine that grown people would give their money, or an substantial amount, to an average high school student. Wharton is a huge stretch. Be a little bit more realistic and don’t overstate your “business”.

slight reach first two
match after that

Personally, I believe it to be senselessly close-minded to disregard your application because of your fairly low GPA. After all, it is just a number. From what I know, the Ivies want a total person, not a total student (evidenced through intensive holistic admission). Although you are relatively lacking academically, the story behind your persona appeals on a humanly emotional tier, and will surely be considered by admissions committees. After all, how many applicants will they see that suffered the way you did? Also, these admissions officers love to see improvement in high school - and I can’t imagine a more powerful example than this. You definitely have a shot at the more selective schools you mentioned, but keep in mind that despite your advantage in terms of suffering and improvement and disadvantage in terms of academics, acceptance into most selective schools is a crap-shoot for any applicant. Good luck!

Chance me back please?

I wonder what happened to the OP.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pittsburgh/1331312-money-vs-prestige.html

Looks like Pittsburgh.

This is really heart warming! Umm if you got into NYU have you decided on how to pay for it. Fin Aid really not generous at NYU. You kind of remind me of well, me. If I were you I would apply to Emory-Oxford, Syracuse, Boston, NYU (CAS) as reaches. Your safeties are okay.

As long as you emphasize your profitable business and the fact that you were going through tough times your high school years, I think you have a good shot at those schools. Research schools and learn which schools like the whole package. Some schools are more stat based (MIT as a generalized example) while others look for other things outside of GPA and SAT (Harvard), which rejects valedictorians with 2400 SATs regularly.

Your business is extremely impressive and I hope to hear back about your acceptances!

Help me out too!

i guarantee that you will get into every single school.

Hello everyone,

I am a community college student and I want to transfer to the Medical technology program at umbc.

Right now, I am on my 3rd semester. I am planning to apply for Spring admission.

My first semester I had a 3.23 gpa, then I had a 2.68 (Had a couple of disappointing low B
s that turned into C
s at the last minute :((((( )
And this semester, i believe I can get a gpa of 3.35-3.5, depending
Also, I took several honors classes that I have gotten A
s and B
s in…I am also in the Honors program.

So my overall gpa would be in the range of like 3.1-3.25 ishh

My high school gpa was 3.6 and SAT score was 1500
I had a 570 on Math SAT subject test
and 590 on Chemistry SAT subject test

What are my chances of getting accepted to umbc?

I know a 3.5 is generally recommended, but I have a couple C
s and those C
s bring down your gpa so bad…:(

Also, I held a job thoughout my freshmen yet at college…Would I be able to indicate my struggles with balancing out school and work in my essay?

Extra curriculars:
Volunteer at hospital for 1 year
Honors Program graduate at community college

Do you think that If I retake my SAT and do really well (1700 or above) that I could possibly have a higher chance of getting in…even with my barely 3.2 gpa?

I was going to apply early decision, but since my gpa is so low, I will wait until I finish my 4th semester to give my self a chance to bring my gpa up. I will also be taking harder courses, so It will give me a chance to prove my self.

Thanks !!!

In my opinion (I’m an incoming senior, so take it as you see fit), it is unlikely that you will get into Cornell and Emory, it’s quite possible that you’ll get into CMU and NYU, and it’s likely that you’ll get into the rest.

what does bump mean…

Hey actually when chances are impossible type Than we are selected you know that are happiness double triple or uncountable… you will be select don worry

Great job with your businesses. Your experiences with that make you really unique. Focus on that and seperate yourself from the rest of the applicants, and hope for thebest.
