Haha, yeah. I’ll post here about that, and PM me - I’m not good at comparing - just sent in NYU yesterday.

hi !! Sure !
mind to check my thread ??

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1248301-chance-international-ivys-top-lacs.html

Sure - Done :)

Your business story’s incredible! Would you have any advice for starting a business or how to invest in stocks? I’ve wanted to for years but have no idea even where to look for help. Sorry I can’t chance I don’t even know enough about college to know my chances. If you could chance me that would be great too though! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1253795-senior-my-chances-these-medium-ivy-league-schools.html#post13557706

Good luck with all your schools.

Sure, what kind of advice? I could write a whole paper; what kind of advice?

Your business is extremely impressive and having that type of passion is an extreme benefit. The only problem: colleges might see that you will focus too much on your company rather than your academics. If I were you, I would write in your essays that you want to go to X prestigious school because they offer classes and majors that would really help you develop into a better business leader.

Your Sat scores are pretty solid, but not as high as the average Sat scores to get into Cornell, NYU, and other top tier schools u listed. Your gpa is pretty bad, but your story about your father dying, mother getting surgery, and you being depressed is a good explanation. And you picked up your game in junior/senior year. I would say the top schools you listed are all low reach for you. The others are pretty much matches.

If you could please chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1253713-chance-me-getting-into-stanford.html#post13555783

Wow, I’ve met my twin o-o
If it gives you any perspective, I have a 3.5 uw gpa, 2200+ sat, and own my own 5 figure business and made it into Georgia tech (ea), a top 5 engineering school that values gpa a LOT.

So it is definitely possible C: I wish you luck ^_^

Thanks (: - and that’s awesome!

As far as bragging goes, I didn’t try to sound too pretentious at all. Actually, my commonapp short essay was about my first business that actually failed but how I viewed it as a learning opportunity for my future business. I wrote how I feel that there is always more to learn and how I want to expand in college.

My main essay mentioned my urge to learn more and my supplements definitely stressed why I wanted to go to X college/univ.

From my knowledge, I know that you will make it into Drexel for sure.

Thanks, that’s my safety.

sarora, i really like your ECs and dedication. Offer me a little advice? can you reply to my private message?

It depends how you emphasized it or how it was shown. It doesn’t seem like you applied in business, as JHU isn’t a business centered school (maybe you did). If you’re doing something like Chemistry as a major, they’re not going to see the business as an important EC like they’d see it if you were going into business.

Also, I’m just hoping it looks good on my apps. My grades are bad (and I hate to throw down excuses) because of my family situation during my freshman/sophomore year. Discounting those years, I’d have an A- GPA, which is much more respectable.

Lastly, it depends on the business. I’m applying to finance and commerce for most of the schools, and my business is directly related. I own a financial consultation and application development firm, and my job is offering investment, credit consulting, marketing, and financial advice in general. I love the field of trading and finance, and I know a lot about what I do on that end. Internally, our company has filed our first patent last month and are patent pending in the United States. We don’t hire accountants nor patent lawyers, I do this all myself.

I hope you are having fun at JHU, that’s a great school and you’ll certainly have some awesome opportunities! Thanks for your feedback as well. I know I will find my place, whether it be my reach or safety. I’ve “calmed” down a bit since writing this thread initially. :)

Take a look at Oxford College at Emory University. You seem like a fit. They calculate GPA differently too (it’ll be higher). From Oxford you can apply to Goizueta, one of the best undergraduate business schools, as a junior. Oxford has lower admission standards and a higher acceptance rate (44%) than regular Emory.

Sarora, here’s what the committee will ask each other, if your application makes it that far: why does a young person with the successful business you describe want to interior it in this economy to go to college? If they can find a reasonable answer the next thing they’ll ask is why you didn’t make grades nd scores a priority. Certainly someone who can be tested in the business you describe can achieve off the charts quantative scores.

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier. Working on a lot of things these days!

opposition: I already applied to Emory (regular) :(

Waverly: Clearly made sure it was portrayed that I didn’t put business > schoolwork, my family situation was really bad. Don’t want to go into so much detail but my mother had two surgeries (major, months of recovery) and depression, plus my little sister was in elementary school and I had a lot of /“family responsibilities”/ - basically, after 10th grade this calmed down and I started getting 3.7+, with a 4.0 my first quarter in senior year.

Sorora, every year schools receive apps that don’t quite make sense. A student owns a business with clients that rely on them that makes significant money, yet they leave it all to go to college. You’ll note the more typica approach is to leave college to pursue business.

Are you planning to trade between classes?S something here does not pass my sniff test, but it might just be me.

ThePost1994 - instead of hijacking someone else’s chance thread, make one of your own.

Wow, if I were you, I would have definitely tried out for some ivies, especially Wharton and even Harvard. I mean sure, your SAT and GPA are not stellar and are below the average for the ivies and prestigious business schools. But considering your situation and adversities, you are an amazing candidate. Also your business (5 figures HOLY!@#$!)@#&!@#) is a great indicator that you are determined and passionate. If I were a Harvard admissions officer, I’d just ignore the GPA and SAT scores and accept you; you’re a great example of a candidate that is a person, not a test taking machine and that’s what colleges look for. Especially the big business schools.

Chance me as well?

Please indicate the plan you would like to be considered for: Early Decision 1, Early Decision 2, or Regular Decision. You may attach an updated supplement essay to your email.
