Chance for the impossible! Super competitive schools with horrendous academics.

Guys instead of thread jacking how about starting your own thread…

Where did you finally end up?

Your stats are pretty low but the business + family death will make your application stand out. I think you have a pretty good chance, especially if you retake the SAT.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northeastern-university/1331311-money-vs-prestige.html?highlight=sarora

yeh how would you manage your business away from home? and i think you have pretty good chances, just be sure to explain your circumstances

At some point colleges have to look past success in the real world and pay attention to academic stats and low grades and test scores just might not cut it for the college. Honestly, I think you have proven yourself exceptionally intelligent and hardy with your success.

… Does anyone look at the dates of posts anymore? When is CC going to un-pin these outdated threads…

Personally I thought your story is amazing
and I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in top colleges.
make your essay about some of your family troubles
this would be a really good experiment to see how much colleges appreciate students who have unique lives but occasionally slip up acdemically

People ought to stop commenting here; the OP was in the applicant pool last year, and we already know where he ultimately matriculated.

It is kind of funny to see how imprecise these chance threads are, though.

You should try higher!
You never know, you may get in. Scores have improved drastically, there is reason for them being low. Plus, you are utilizing time well, have a business, do what you like…
A super good rec and powerful essays…
Goodluck :-)

As a Stanford alum, I would be proud to see someone with your general profile at the school. How the final package reads will determine how it is interpreted. But you should be proud of how you bounced back! The Silent Alumni Majority is pulling for you.

LOL. did not see the date…hope the OP is still trending upwards.

Helpful, not suprised to see some colleges on here

why is this a featured discussion? It’s over a year old and the poster is already in college.

Does anyone know where OP went?

OP goes to University of Pittsburgh.

I’ve earned a ton of money off of my custodian account. Like, exponentially higher than what I started out with. Is this something I can put on my resume?

Why has this thread been resurrected???

i think you have a good shot at any of those schools dont listen to what the others say they are close minded those hooks are great and writing about how those deaths affected you (as horrible as i sound) will literally get you into to any of those

Just apply to NYU CAS, then transfer to Stern second year.

^that’s if you’re that nervous getting in. I’d say around 15-20% chance at Stern (since its pretty competitive), but for Cornell I’d say unlikely.
