Chance for Top Schools

The Ivies are reaches, just like for anyone else (save Cornell). Your ECs seem kind of scattered, but I’m sure you can find some way to tie everything together. Your APs are good if you got 4s and 5s on them, but your SAT needs to come up to have a good chance at the Ivies.

Boston U - safety
NYU Stern - low match
Columbia - reach
Harvard - reach
MIT - reach
Tufts University - match
UPenn, reach
Cornell - high match

Try to raise your SAT, if you can get 2250 and more, then you will have a solid chance at the ivies.

I think you have really awesome chances of getting into a great school with your outstanding stats and EC’s. You have a good selection of high reach and match schools, and BU is definitely a safety for you. I think you’ve put together a really good list!
Your higher schools would definitely be more within your reach if you upped the SAT score, so make sure you are preparing well for that.

Excellent job with your portfolio and I wish you all the best with your applications!!

I think you’ll definitely get into BU and NYU your sat scores are a bit low for Tuffs and Cornell but if you retake them I think you could get in there too. Columbia, Harvard, MIT, and UPenn are reaches just because they are the top schools and are reaches regardless of how good you are.

In all honesty, with higher tier schools it’s hard to predict anybody’s chance. I think u has a good shot if u raise the day up

Also, in response to ur fbla post, I didn’t really study because I took courses like accounting and ap micro which helped. I guess learn more about jobs people in finance have and learn about banking procedures

Alright thanks guys! I know i Have to up my sat’s. What do you think about Babson and Villanova Business school chances? Along with Carnegie Mellon?

You’ve done a lot going into Junior year. You have a good start, but first and foremost, keep up your grades. Secondly, get the SAT to at least 2200. 2350+ is ideal as an unhooked asian applicant. Your summers are also key. Take advantage of them!

Do internships and if you are interested in mit still, then try research + intel and siemens.

It’s a little to early to chance you, but if you continue on this path, you have a good chance.

Alright so just do internships during the summer? Also what does a hook mean?

A hook is something that makes you particularly attractive to an admissions counselor. That would be something like coming from a traditionally under-represented background (URM, low-income) , being a recruited athlete, or coming from an uber-selective program like RSI.

You don’t have any distinguishing factors that really stand out. I think Harvard and MIT are out of reach unless you have some awesome essays. Cornell is very doable if you do ED and of course from Cornell you can move into finance.

There is a guy in my school who probably would have been valedictorian if we ranked. Hardest classes possible, took PE in the summer so he would be done with electives and that would give him more space to take AP classes.

He had a 4.0 Unweighted, was a part of every single science/engineering competition in my school and I believe he scored very well for the SATs too. He applied ED for Stanford and got flat out rejected.

Unless your school has a good history with ivy leagues (my school does not), I would recommend applying to a few more non-ivy. With higher SATs though, you stand a decent shot at all the Ivys nonetheless and probably shoe in for Boston U and NYU.

Also, if you apply to Wharton, I’m sure you will know that its acceptance rate is much lower than Upenn in general. Since it is the most famous and best undergrad business school, its acceptance rate does not compare with the rest of the school.

Good luck though, it would be quite an accomplishment to make it into an ivy caliber school. It really depends how you stack up with the rest of your graduating class for Ivies also.

Oh wow thanks for the response it was very indepth. My school is pretty decent at ivies/stanford type schools. One person just got into Stanford and another into pricenton with 30k a year. Also, is having a very good talent effective as a hook?

on target. raise SAT’s and maintain that 4.0. you’ll be in great shape if you do this

Your chances are good but I feel like you need something to help you stand out. Keep in mind that those even applying to the Ivys are already the cream-of-the-crop, so you need to have something that makes you special… something that makes you stand out from that pool of highly-qualified applicants.

Oh yeah yeah for sure. Right now I just want to get into Cornell at my highest because sometimes Harvard and stuff are too “overrated” when it comes to certain things. Of course its still one of the best schools haha

Thank you all so far! Right now Cornell seems very interesting.

I would say you’re definitely in at BU; you can count that one as a safety. As for the others- you seem as competitive an applicant as any applying to these schools. I’ve never chanced anyone before, but you chanced me and asked for me to do the same so…Good luck!

BU, Cornell, and Stern all matches. The rest are reaches
