You got to be freeking kiding me. I freeking study my @** in my Jr year, and this what its got me. I’m not sure you guys are right. Okay, I know my high school isnt one of those “O.C. style” ones out in Dallas, but its a good school. I’ve freeking studied the past 3 yrs of being high school , and I dont want people coming here and saying that I dont have a chance to attend the University of Texas-Austin. I deserve a chance like every applicant, I dont apperciate people trying to discourage me like I have from the last two users here. I know I’m not perfect, but I want to have a college education.

if you can’t take an honest opinion, then I advise you to not ask a “chance me” question on this forum. we answer your questions like it is, and we don’t sugar-coat it. of course, you do deserve a chance, but some people have better chances than others. To have a good chance, you need to be in the top 10%. if you’re not, then you need a strong SAT/ACT score. as of now, you need to improve both areas.

With the deadline for applications being in December, there is probably not anything you can do about your rank. I would use every opportunity to take the SAT and retake the ACT. Unless you can raise those standardized test scores signigicantly, you are probably out of luck. Get some study books and prepare as much as you can, this part is totally under your control. I also agree with Henry, don’t post the question here is you don’t want an honest answer. No one here is trying to discourage you. Good luck!

Don’t forget that really NO ONE knows how acceptance is going to go this year with the change in the top 10% law. Your main weakness is your test scores. If you get that up I think you have a chance. Also, you seem to have hinted that you’re grades might not have been great in your first two years. Colleges do notice this like change in achievement. I just don’t know if it will be enough. Your essays matter a lot. Don’t get discouraged just because people said you wouldn’t get in, because then you aren’t going to work as hard on the application. Thus, you probably won’t end up in. If you know you worked hard and have a lot to offer AND work hard on the application as well you probably have a shot assuming your SAT score is decent. Good luck!

^Your right about this year no one knows how admissions will be done this year.

A few things you can do is write a killer essay and improve your ACT or SAT. Have you done any community service? Have you worked at all while attending high school? What makes you unique?

You can roll the dice and try just like the other thousands who apply. You may get admitted!

If you don’t get in try not to be bitter, make the best of whereever you go.

I wish you and all the others who apply good luck!

The change in the top 10% law does not take effect until the fall of 2011, so ALL top 10% students have automatic admission in the fall of 2010. In the fall of 2011, the top 10% auto acceptance will be limited to 75%, and UT has sent out notification that this will be around top 8%.

So, you’re out of luck for a change this coming admit season.

With a 19 ACT and not in the top 10%, you will have a tough time beating out others with similar rank and much higher scores. Give it a shot, but you better have the most amazing essays ever written and a pretty darn convincing additional essay explaining why you deserve a spot (essay C). Sorry if you don’t like that answer, but that is the reality of the situation.
