Chance for Weinberg? Will chance back

Hey guys, thanks in advance for chancing me. Please be brutally honest. I seriously don't know how I'll do in the admission process b/c I fall in a different category than many of you. I have good academics/gpa, but weaker extracurriculars. Well, just take a look:

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 2400 single sitting
ACT: none
SAT II: Math2 800, US History 800, BiologyM 790
UW GPA: 4.0? school doesn't report, but I've never had below a 95 in a class
W GPA: 4.727
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): ~top 3 out of 143 (school doesnt report)
AP (place score in parenthesis): CompSci 5, World 5, Stats 5, USH 5, Bio 4, Lang/Comp 3
IB (place score in parenthesis): none
Senior Year Course Load: Calc BC, AP Micro+Macro, AP Spanish, AP Physics C, English electives
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): NMSF, AP Scholar w/ distinction, National Spanish Exam Silver, Headmaster's list

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: basketball team, math club president, computer club president, NHS executive council, Carolina Premier Bank program, Students of Service club, Key club
Job/Work Experience: none
Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at Carolina Medical Center (100+ hrs), Math Buddies tutoring, peer tutoring service (through NHS), school's Key Club
Summer Activities: business camp at UNCC, basketball team camp at Wofford, nothing huge
Essays: Common App (at least 8/10 if I'm being hard on myself), NW Supplement (around 8-9 out of 10)
Teacher Recommendation: Calc BC teacher (9/10), English teacher (she likes me but not very diligent person, probs 8/10)
Counselor Rec: (9/10, he's a pro and knows me well)
Additional Rec: none
Interview: not yet (should I do it? I seriously hate interviews and I'm worried that I might shoot myself in the foot with an interview)

Other

State (if domestic applicant): NC
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: private school, send a handful to Ivies on a good year. my year is super competitive, at least 9 other ppl are applying to NW, and every other top school
Ethnicity: Asian (goddamnit, the only part I hate about being Chinese)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: lol, lets just say that there is no way that I could qualify for FA
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): haha, nope
Major: Econ
Submit date: 12/28/2013 (regular decision)

Just wondering if I even have a chance, or if I just ****ed away another 80 bucks in fees. Goddamn, I swear that my year is literally the most competitive class for the past 10 years. I'm near the top, but with less than 150 kids, colleges won't accept more than 2 from our school, right?

Also, if a current student/alum/parent wants to read my essay, just pm me. Provided that you don't spread my essay on the internet, I'd love some feedback

You were doing “chance me” for Duke too. Your profile is perfect for both Duke & Northwestern. By chance, if you’re doing “chance me” on every school on CC, I will tell you this much, you’re a good candidate but at the end of the day, there’s an element of luck you have to face.
So my question is: Are you a lucky Asian guy? What is your Chinese Horoscope sign? lol

perfect, as in they are matches for me, or what? And I only applied to 10 schools, so no, I didnt do one for every school. My zodiac animal is the boar ('95), and I have no way of judging how lucky I am until april

You will certainly be considered very strongly. But Northwestern has a very odd admissions process when it comes to people who are as qualified as you are. I have known of cases where people with perfect SATs, perfect ACTs are passed over for students with 28s on the ACT. That certainly is not to say that that will happen to you, but just some things to consider. If you did an interview, how did it go? Have you visited campus and shown an interest in the school? If yes, I would be fairly surprised if you didn’t get in.

No interview yet, but I’m considering it. And I haven’t had a chance to visit yet. I swear, if I don’t get int b/c of freaking “demonstrated interest”…

Yeah it is something that Northwestern takes more seriously than other colleges. Frankly my suggestion to people in your position is to send some well formed and pertinent questions to the admissions committee. That will show them you are at least interested and considering the university.

okay, will do. thanks a lot majman

Is NU a match for OP.

I think we have to define terms here – if you mean a ‘statistical match’ (i.e., OP’s stats fit in with the statistical profile of the class), OP is a match at NU and any other school in the country.

If by ‘match’ we mean that OP has a 60-70% chance of acceptance – well, I’m not sure that anyone is a match by those standards at the top 20 or so schools.

Overall, I’d say OP has a pretty good chance though.

thanks zephyr. I admit that I kinda was just looking for reassurance, I’ve been stressing out over my future

Does your school have Naviance? You have a pretty solid chance if your school has maintained a healthy relationship with NU.

yeah, my school has naviance, but so far only a handful of people have applied, and most of them have been rejected (2 accepted out of 13 total). I’m higher in GPA and SAT, but i still don’t feel confident in my chances
