Chance former slacker/ huge mich fan

Low gpa- didn't care about school freshman year, or beginning of sophmore. realized it mattered and started trying about halfway through soph year.

Intrested in applying for some kind of Film Studies/Business type joint deal. (Not really sure yet about major. I am good in business classes and its somewhat interesting, but my real passion is movies and the discussion of them. If I could do something combining the two of them that would be amazing)

From NJ, top 10 public highschool. Nationally recognized school (Northern Highlands in Allendale NJ)

keep up the gpa or try to get a 4.0 from now on, study ur butt off and get a 2100+ SAT, apply early, you’d get a good chance.

being from NJ hurts a lot and GPA is very low.
You’re gonna need a superb ACT/SAT (33+/2200+) to have a chance.

why does being from NJ hurt? sorry i’m new to the proces.

Preference is usually given to instate applicants, thus being from NJ hurts your chances a little.

I see, i get that. I thought he meant that there are a lot of applicants of NJ or something.

Errmm i think he meant that there are many exceptional students from NJ, so umich will raise its standards when it comes to NJ applicants :P

The caliber and number of NJ students applying makes admission from there difficult.

I’m gonna call it a reach. If you can get a 32+ ACT or a 2150ish SAT, that’ll help your chances a lot. Write good essays, and try your hardest to make that upward trend even more drastic. UMich loves that stuff.

I got in with a 3.41 GPA/33 ACT, huge upward trend. I am in-state, but at the time of my admission, they considered me OOS.
