Mich is my first choice but a huge reach...Do I have any chance?

Hi guys,
I used to be a huge slacker. I didn't do homework , never studied for tests, did nothing after school...It was a disaster. Then about halfway through my sophomore year I realized that what I was doing was going to hurt me in the long run. From that point on I never recieved below a B. However, the damage had alraedy done,as my freshman year GPA was pretty low and my sophomore year GPA was just ok. Junior year I had a huge improvement and really did as well as I know I can. This year I'm doing well so far as well.

For Ann Arbor, I applied EA in middle october for the Screen Arts and Cultures Program in the LSA.
I think my supplements and CA. Essay were pretty good, an english teacher I respect a lot and my mom (a former english teacher) helped me with the three essays.

So here are my stats, and tell me if i'm going to get in or not make it to the colleges on my list

Freshman year: 2.78 GPA
Sophomore Year: 3.14 GPA (Honors English)
Junior Year: 3.72 GPA (AP Gov, Honors English, History, Business classes.)

Cumulative GPA: 3.23

School doesn't rank.

I go to a top 10 school in NJ, and we typically do very well at most colleges (Northern Highlands)

took SATs a few times:
SAT 2 section single score: 1230
SAT 2 Section Superscore: 1250
SAT 3 Section single score: 1910
SAT 3 secion super score: 1930

E.C's

Stock Market club member freshman year
Big Brother Program Participant Junior year (Program was cut by state)
Summer Camp CIT for one year, then Counselor the last two years.

Rec Basketball up to Sophomore year.

my senior schedule:

Honors Calc
Entreprenourship
TVP II

Chance me.
I aced my first Quarter, got All A's and only B's in Psych and English; It was a 4.05 GPA.

So can I overcome my bad freshman year with my huge upward trend?

even w ith your upward trand your gpa isnt that high and your classes are few in ap and yout sats are low

reach school

Yes its a reach but im asking if I have any chance at all…

I do have a lot of honors and AP classes however.

By the time I graduate I will have a total of about 12 honors classes, and four college credit classes (2 APs)

it will depend on your essays, recs, and ecs

Alright, I was in a very similar situation last year but I was out of state(-) and a legacy(+) and I didn’t get in. I’m going to tell you this right now and you better listen. Understand that Michigan might not happen and really invest yourself in other schools that you have a better shot at getting into or have already been accepted to. Have Michigan be at the back of your mind and if it happens, it happens. It was really tough on me last year because I have a lot invested emotionally in UofM and I just looked and looked and looked to see if I got in for months. So just focus on other schools and hey, if Michigan comes calling then go, but don’t dwell on it. And if you don’t get in, but you really love UofM, do what I’m going to do and transfer!!!

I see very little, hardly any chance. Do to ur early years ur GPA is not that great and ur test scores are not amazing either. Ur ECs are all right but nothing to outweigh the earlier points. If u look around you’ll also see the amount of AP/Honors classes u took is really not a ton. Plus u are OOS. Id take the advice of the above poster and not invest too much in Michigan.

Your upward trend is impressive but a 3.72 is still not that high. Your GPA is very low for Michigan, as is your SAT. It will be a reach, but good luck!

Is that w or uw

I would be surprised if you got in. But I graduated high school with worse stats than you, and I got in after two solid years at another school. If it’s really your dream to come here you can still make it happen, but may have to take an alternate path.
