Please Chance me based on the following schools… I’ll chance back if you leave a link to your post

  1. USC
  2. UCLA
  3. UCSD
  4. UC Irvine
  5. UCSB
  6. Cal Poly Slo
  7. UCR
  8. Cal State Fullerton

Most of these schools would be safeties for you. Match for UCSD. Your SAT should be OKAY for UCLA and USC but it is a bit low. However, yours EC’s and GPA are strong, so you should be good.

You are a competitive applicant but your safeties would be CSUF and UCR. UCSD/UCI/UCSB would be Match schools. USC and UCLA are High Match schools only due to your SAT. I think you will get an acceptance at all. Good Luck.

@Gumbymom @jdschooled5 Thanks for the replies! I was a bit surprised considering Engineering is impacted at all the UCs… the 4.27 is only my 10-11 FULLY WEIGHTED GPA, does 9/12th grade matter? Can you calculate my rogerhub UC GPA based on my stats above, just to make sure I am doing it correctly. Thanks for the response!

Also… my unweighted 10-11 GPA comes out to only 3.69… would this impact my chances?

Freshman grades are not included in the UC GPA calculation, but are looked at to make sure you meet a-g UC course requirements. Senior grades are used to keep your provisional admission and also to make sure you complete the a-g UC course requirements.

I get a 4.0 UC GPA. Tennis does not count in the GPA calculation and your GPA is capped with 8 semesters of AP class credit. Your GPA is still competitive but I would probably put UCSD as a High Match and UCLA could go either way. Essays and EC’s will also figure into your chances, so make sure you spend time on your essays this summer.

Since USC will use Freshman grades, your unweighted is more important since they will weight your classes differently. What is your 9-11th unweighted? Also USC will ask for Mid-year senior grades and your letters of recommendation will have an impact for USC.

Thanks for the prompt response… my 9-11 UW is 3.5 and is the UC GPA more important or Uncapped GPA provided by the school? @Gumbymom

Also will the two C+'s play a HUGE factor during admissions…

Most of the UC’s will use the capped UC GPA but UCLA/UCB will also use the uncapped. The reason that I asked about unweighted is that USC will weight classes differently than UC’s, but the unweighted GPA is the GPA listed on the common datasets for all schools so you can do a better comparison. Since different schools have different weighting scales, the unweighted is more an equalizer. The 2 C’s will definitely not help, but you show great improvement in your Junior year. It has become difficult to second guess the UC’s but you are qualified applicant and all you can do is apply and hope for the best since you are applying for a competitive major.

Your stats look respectable considering the schools that you listed. Most of the gpa/Sat scores are in range for most of the college’s you listed. However, it gets a little more competitive with usc and ucla

You are a strong candidate for all the schools you listed.

How important is the rigor of the courses taken vs GPA?

You should be fine everywhere except maybe USC, UCLA and UCSD. I assume you’re in-state with that school list, if so you should be a likely candidate for UCSD as well. UCLA is more competitive but it is still maybe a match- high match. The SAT is a bit low for USC but you seem to have fairly unique ECs so it’s probably a high match. You have a good chance of getting in everywhere, and you should be very likely to get in at least all but 1.

I would say you are a very good candidate for all of these schools. You have a great GPA and test scores and obviously do take the most rigorous courses offered. Your ECs do look good but did you have any leadership positions, that usually helps. Good luck!
