SLO/UCSD/USC: High Match
UCLA: Low Reach
UCI/UCSB: Match
UCR/CSUF: Safety
Georgia Tech?

Out of ME/EE/AE, which is the easiest to get into (just curious)? Thanks for the help!

ME is the most popular and probably the hardest admit. Not sure which of the two EE or AE would be easier… I personally think you should apply to the major you want and not try to game the system.

I think UCSD is a high match and UCLA is a low reach. UCR and CSUF would be safeties, and UCSB is a match. Chance me back?

Did you calculate your GPA correctly? You can’t count sports in your GPA. I don’t know if they (UCs) accept Honors Pre-Calc as a weighted class.

Guess you are OOS for GTech, therefore definitely a “Reach”. What is your SAT Math score? For GTech, it does not matter which Engg. discipline you are applying to.

UCLA, USC too would be “Reaches”.

Would going to COSMOS or UCLA/USC affect my chances any way?

I think you have a chance at GT. Your SAT score seems pretty high for it. I couldn’t tell you for the other schools because I really don’t know too much sorry about that though

I mean USC/UCLA engineering camps

  1. (low) reach
  2. Reach
  3. Match
  4. Match
  5. Reach
  6. Match
  7. Match
  8. Safety
  9. Safety

  2. match
  3. Match
  4. Match
  5. high match

if possible raise your SAT scores, but other than that for Cali schools it very solid

chance me back!

  1. USC - reach
  2. UCLA - reach (It's actually harder to get into UCLA from in state than OOS which is a rare exception)
  3. UCSD - match
  4. UC Irvine - match
  5. Georgia Tech - high match
  6. UCSB - match
  7. Cal Poly Slo - match
  8. UCR - safety
  9. Cal State Fullerton - safety

Get some major-specific ECs in there. For example, intern/volunteer for an engineer or start an engineering club to set yourself apart from the plethora of engineering applicants at schools like Georgia Tech or UCLA. Also, what did you get on the subsections of the SAT… your going to need 700+ on the math section for most of these schools and a 750+ for GT and UCLA (GT’s average for the math section for males is 747). I would also consider taking the SAT IIs again because you are in the 71st and 64th percentile for math and physics, respectively. Raising your scores on subjects tests is MUCH easier than for the SAT I… All I did was take a few Barron’s practice tests and made sure I understood my mistakes and I raised my score 120 points from my first practice test of a 680 and got an 800 on the real thing. I’m sure just spending a few hours here and there over the rest of the summer will easily raise your score to an 800 for math… not sure about physics because I never took that test

Good luck this fall! Chance me back?

@orlandomagic98 What kind of clubs could I start? Are there any organizations?

@harshil1499 you could start an engineering club at your high school to show (1) your interest in engineering (2) your leadership and (3) your desire to make a change for the better at your school. I’m not sure if there is a national organization for HS engineering clubs but if there is that would be a great route to take. You’ll have to get approval from your school principal and the board of education and get a teacher to serve as the club’s advisor if you want to create an official club. I started an FBLA chapter (because I’m interested and majoring in Business/Finance) at my HS… it’s been a great experience and looks amazing on a resume. I also used it in my common app essay. If there is a program like that for engineering that would be what your going for. For activities, you can bring in guest speakers, go on field trips, get involved in the community, and learn about engineering hands-on. Remember that it takes much more work to come up with and execute activities than it does to start the club, so know what your getting yourself into. Also, you should have good decision-making and public speaking skills because the members of the club will always be looking to you in the beginning because their at first not sure what the club is all about.

Good Luck…By the way, could you chance me back? (Click on the link)
