Chance me! 2016 California community college transfer

I started studying in a ccc in 2014, and I am gonna transfer in 2016.
Before 2015 Fall, my GPA was 4.0. That was before I submitted my application. In that fall, I got a C in calculus and a C in a GE class.
I want to transfer to UCSD as econ major or UCSB as econ and accounting major.
In my transcript, I got a W and 3 P, and all rest are A’s, including micro and micro econ.
after I submitted my application, my GPA falls to 3.6.(50 semester units)
All prerequisite and IGETC will be finished before I transfer , no tag. International student. Few insignificant ECs, one internship. First generation college student.
Can anyone tell me what is my chance of getting admitted by UCSD and UCSB? Thanks!

@Cayton

Your chances seem decent in my opinion, but a C in a major class might not look so good. Still, a 3.6 for UCSD and UCSB is great. Good luck.

Also, consider reposting this question in the UC transfers forum. You can get better opinions there.

Chance me? I attend College of the Desert (2-year community college in southern California)

I have a 3.9 GPA.

But, last spring semester I took some classes and had to drop/stop going because I had to take on extra work since my mom couldn’t afford the rent on her own. Retaking those courses this semester, under the assumption that I will perform in them as I did in my previous coursework when I was working as much as I am now.

In high school, I didn’t do as well. I think a 2.8-3.4.

I dropped out senior year, and went on to get my high school diploma that fall from College of the Desert.

Constantly moved around because I went between living with my dad and my mom.

His alcoholism was kinda ridiculous and was a factor in my underperformance in high school.

I have worked full time at Rite Aid since my first semester. Will be joining phi theta kappa this September when open enrollment starts up.

I ran some cross country in high school

played some water polo in high school

was on the debate team my senior year of high school and placed 3rd for the region/district in impromptu short speeches.

My major is Philosophy, I want to go on to law school.

I have two I would prefer and the rest I look at equally.

Stanford, Berkeley.

The rest would be Claremont Mckenna, UCLA, UCSD, NYU, Rutgers, Pomona College, Georgetown, and maybe Brown but I’ve heard they are extremely liberal and I want a more politically diverse environment.

@dhower I would say your chances depend a lot on your extra-curriculars right now. Work is a good substitute if you don’t have a lot, but if there are any clubs or volunteer activities in your community you should join them. Before I continue, let me just say that I am also a community college student and am yet to transfer (my dream school is UCLA), but I have looked at a lot of the information regarding transfers at various colleges. You have a very good shot at any of the UCs with a 3.9 GPA, but maybe not at some of the most elite private colleges. Stanford, for example, is incredibly difficult to transfer into and if I remember correctly only lets in about 40 transfers a year. I don’t know about the rest of the schools you listed, but a safe bet is that they are incredibly competitive for transfer spots. I can understand wanting intellectual diversity in a campus as well, which is one of the reasons I favor UCLA over UC Berkeley. While UCLA is very liberal, Berkeley is probably the most liberal out of all of the universities in the nation and some there can be intolerant of dissenting opinions. Don’t get me wrong, a fine education can be had at UC Berkeley and it is second on my list of schools I want to transfer to, but I just wanted to give you a little food for thought, that is, if you are still wondering. Btw, I am also a prospective law student and hope to attend Stanford Law, but that is really more of a dream at this point. For now, I’m just thinking of transferring.

My grades were a bit lower than yours in some respects and higher in others. Although I can’t say for those two schools I got into UCSC. I don’t know if that helps at all!
