Chance me? A bit worried

ACT: 26, 26 in English, 17 in Math, 34 in Reading, and 27 Science, with a 6 of 12 on the Writing portion.

Class Rank 34/185

Good, solid essay on my application (At least in my opinion)

Obviously had all my basic classes, 2 years of Spanish, Arts and all that, etc...

Anyway, did about 2 hours per day of volunteer work for the last two years of High School, was enrolled in an Army JROTC program for four years, graduated in 2009 and have been helping run my parents business since then.

If it matters any, 22 year old mixed Hispanic, Native American, and Caucasian male from WV

The thing that really worries me is that my gpa (unweighted) was a 1.9 cum. Which is atrocious I know, but it's a long story, bullying problem yada yada, no need to bore with details, but UNCW is my first choice school and my GPA is really my only cause for concern at this point, so any help would be majorly appreciated.

It would be important for you to convey your story about what impacted your GPA and that UNCW is your first choice. GPA is low but you have other factors in your favor so that you could have a chance. You should also consider other options and since UNCW is your first choice, you can work on a plan to increase your chances of transferring in if you do not get in under your current application.

I’ve been told that since I graduated a few years ago my test scores will be a little more important than my GPA, but I have no idea how true that is because it’s always a friend telling me these things lol

Your test scores will count for more than your GPA but also will your personal growth and maturity.Have you taken any classes at all since you graduated? Have you consistently worked full time?

Classes, no. I have been working full time for the last 3 years though, helping run a small business.

That will count positively. Good luck. Dont be afraid to let them know how much you want to go there.

Thanks, you’ve been really reassuring
