I have a few colleges picked out (two reaches, two matches, and two safeties) and I would like CC's input as to what my chances are.
Stats:
GPA: somewhere between 3.7 and 3.8 (unweighted)
SAT I: 2040
-Math: 630
-Writing: 660 (I actually am an exceptional writer, I swear!)
-CR: 750
Taking Literature and US History SAT IIs tomorrow (October 9th), and I'm confident that I will do well on at least Literature.
Got a 4 on the AP US History exam, taking AP English this year. Haven't taken a non-honors/non-AP course since freshman year. Taking two college courses this year (SUNY Latin and Syracuse U Public Affairs Forum). I did 4 years of JHU CTY (summer 2007-2010), but I don't really have any stand-out ECs (only membership positions on some random ones that were just fun). I'm going to run for an office in my schools Gay-Lesbian-Straight Alliance this year, and I'll probably win because nobody is in it (unfortunately, but that's conservative upstate NY for you).
Anyway, onto the colleges:
-Brown is my insane reach that I have less than 1% chance of getting into, but I'm EDing anyway
-Wesleyan is my other reach
-NYU and Boston University are my matches
-Emerson and Northeastern are safeties

i think you have a good shot at NYU (arts and sciences) and Boston, youre are good for Emerson and Northeastern

from what i hear Weseleyan isnt worth the tuition, i was gonna apply there too :/

chance me back

good for nyu i think…not so much for brown
solid sat but boost your math!
any ec’s?

Thanks, guys I don’t think I’ll even mind not getting into Brown so much; it’s on the same level as NYU in terms of how bad I want to go. My mom really just wants me to apply to Wesleyan, so I figure what the hell, why not. Haha. I posted to your chance thread, pqrrrqjjjqq.

holahellokitty, I chanced you I would try to boost my math, but a lot of my friends are telling me that there’s no point because I’m not interested in doing anything even remotely related to science or math. However, I feel like it would make me a more impressive candidate if I did…I’ll ask my counselor about it at my senior conference Tuesday.
I don’t really have any ECs or community service, unfortunately I’m kind of lazy and enjoy my “me-time.” I’m a member of my school’s International Service Club and I’ve gotten some community service through that, but other than that I’m only in the gay-straight alliance and the school newspaper. I have been given the chance to be in the National Honor Society numerous times, but I just don’t have the required service hours.

NYU and Emerson are definitely in. Brown is ehh… lol

you’ll probably get into your matches/safeties, and i dont know much about wellesley. i dont think you got a good chance at brown though…

NYU: match/reach
BU: match

Now, I recall from another thread that you and your mom are not rolling in money. That means you’ve got to really understand financial aid, and the meaning of Need-Blind, and 100% Need. You want o apply to a few schools that are both. You don’t really want to be getting into a school like NYU, where COA will be $58,000 next year, only to find that the package from their Fin. Aid office looks like this: EFC: $8,000. Loans: $18,000, Work Study: $4,000 Grants: $18,000 UNMET NEED: $10,000

Brown - Mid Reach, Essays play a huge role
NYU - Match, Low Match
BU - Match
Wellesley - High Match
