Chance me at Boston U, Emerson, Sarah Lawrence, etc? I'll chance back :)

I'm in the middle of my junior year. Do I have any chances? It may be too early to tell. I'm looking at majoring in film or journalism.

I'm a white female.

SAT: 1880 (I know it's not so great, but I'm definitely taking it 2 more times.)
Math-590
Writing- 620
Reading- 670
(I also have not taken my SAT II tests yet.)

GPA- 3.6 (But I'm hoping to raise some borderline grades; I'll hopefully/probably end up with a 3.8/4.0 weighted)
My school doesn't rank.
Taken: AP Euro, AP Enviro, AP US, Honors Chem, Honors English (all three years so far), Honors Bio. (Planning on taking AP Art Hist, AP Stat next year.)

EC:
-written more than 40 pieces of creative fiction, published online, and am submitting some of my work to the Scholastic Writing Awards contest.
-danced competitively for 5 years with a studio.
-dance team at school which has won first place at a national level.
-co-president of my high school's Literary Magazine Club for two years.
-secretary of a culture club.
-vice president of a Great American Bakesale club, which donates money to feed hungry children. (This club is also my main form of community service, I so far have around 250 hours of community service.)
-tutored Algebra for two years to middle school children.
-won silver place at a regional level for National History Day.
-NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, where one attempts to write a novel in a month) for 3 years.
-participated and helped run a major event for Relay for Life.

Other than that, I've so far taken 3 years of French and plan to take AP French V my senior year.

I really have no idea about my chances, because my stats aren't the best. If you could give me any idea, please help me out! :]

I'm also planning on/hoping to write a really stellar essay that can hopefully balance my pitiful GPA a little.

I'm looking at these colleges to apply to:
Boston U
Emerson
Sarah Lawrence
Loyola Marymount
Chapman
U of Chicago (I know, very high reach)

I'd love to get into USC, UCLA, or Cornell, but I don't have almost any chance and I doubt sheer luck will get me in.

Any suggestions or feedback would be great. Any colleges you know of that might fit my stats? I'll chance you, too!

Emerson and BU are probably matches if you can get your SATs up (and you probably can do that pretty easily)

Thank you! Yes, I am definitely planning on working hard to raise my SAT score. I’m hoping hoping hoping to pass 2000 if only just by a little by my 3rd time taking it.

BU is my first choice so far.

(Oh, and on my ECs, if it helps any, I am a certified HAM radio operator and certified in CPR.)

You should apply to Tisch (NYU) as a reach. They have an excellent film program and I’m sure the journalism program at NYU is very good. It would still be a reach, but you have a lot of ECs and some of them are unique and NYU cares a lot about that (the only issue with NYU is the cost :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Thank you for the advice, benellis! I’ve looked into NYU and the only turnoff for me is the campus. But they do have amazing arts programs, I’ll definitely check into that, even if it is a reach. :)

I will chance you back! :] and if anyone has suggestions of colleges that you know of that may fit my stats, please suggest!

Your stats are pretty good! I’m actually a Senior with lower, ha because I screwed up my freshman and sophomore year! But I think you have a very good chance at BU if you keep at it! I’m applying there as well! And great ECs. Please chance back!

Thank you! good luck to you!

I will chance you back right now :)

I think you can make it into Boston U. If you raise your GPA to a 3.7 and SATs to 1950ish, BU will be a very good match. As for reaches, Cornell is a hard to school to get into but atleast they don’t look at your Writing score- so you just need to bring up your CR (a little) and your math. I suggest applying ED to Northwestern. They have an amazing journalism school and although it is a reach, ED is best for reach schools because you are showing how much you are really interested in the school.

At least you are in at BU.Not so sure for the rest.Good luck!:)

Thank you, michiganfall and cookiemonster7! :)

cookiemonster7, Northwestern sounds incredible! I’m visiting colleges this summer and I’m thinking about putting that on my list! Thank you for suggesting :)

Now I’ll chance you both back!

you definitely have a good chance for all of these schools if you raise your SAT. otherwsie, you’re pretty well rounded.

Boston U - match
Emerson - ?
Sarah Lawrence - ?
Loyola Marymount - match
Chapman - ?
U of Chicago - reach
