Chance me (Aerospace Engineering)

Hi guys,
I’m currently a sophomore in high school but will be applying to colleges this fall*. I’m going to be an aerospace engineering major. These are some of the schools I’m looking at and I’ll post my stats below-

UT Austin
UIUC
Georgia Tech
UMich
Purdue

Stats-
Iowa resident, female
GPA 3.7 UW, 3.8 W (started off with a ~3.5 freshman GPA, has improved greatly, A’s in all sciences)
33 composite ACT- 35 English, 32 Math, 34 Reading, 30 Science
Top 10% of class of about 380

ECs-
Highly involved in orchestra and band:
All-State orchestra every year
Regional honor orchestras and bands every year
School orchestra concertmistress

School:
Science Olympiad
Varsity Quiz Bowl
Debate

Also have been involved in many many church volunteering events, most notably serving Christmas dinner and giving presents to families in poverty in my community

Participated in NASA Space Settlement Design Competition; selected for international team of twelve out of over 200 students at competition which is one of the things that really sparked my interest in aerospace.

Junior/senior year schedule*-
College Physics (equivalent of AP)
AP Chem
AP Psych
AP Government
AP English Language
Composition
APUSH
Engineering PLTW- year long engineering research project
Orchestra
Precalc

*Graduating in three years- all requirements met, I know this is unconventional but I’m 100% sure this is the right decision for me.

Thank you for your input!!!

EDIT
Forgot to note that I have health issues that have caused me to miss about a month and a half of school this year

On the EC side, I am also in jazz band and my band has recently placed runner up at state championships.

Bump. Please, please, help. Will chance back.

I think you are very stand out. Why you have to worry about?

Have you start the application yet? I am a transfer applicant to Purdue. I am looking for other school to study Aerospace Engineering besides Purdue

@ntruong2118 No, I haven’t. I’ll be applying this fall for fall 2018. I don’t know what your stats are, but if you’re looking at Purdue and like the Midwest I would say UIUC and maybe Iowa State.

thank you so much. I interested in UIUC but the tuition is very expensive for OOS. Do you know if they have good program there? I kinda hang on to Purdue because of in-state tuition. I saw that you are interested in Purdue. Let me know when you apply there

I wish you good luck. If I have all the grades and achievements like you. I wouldn’t worry about not getting accepted?

UIUC has a great engineering program. Don’t be fooled by the “high” acceptance rate (slightly above 50%)… their 25-75 ACT range is 31-34. I do agree though, out of state tuition is a bit ridiculous and the financial aid isn’t the greatest. What are your stats, if you don’t mind me asking? @ntruong2118

I’m in Indiana

honestly, I only have a few option in Indiana if I want to take advantages of the in-stage tuition. How’s about you? I see that you have a large selection of school in mind. It’s really great that you can apply to those schools as a freshman

My only in-state option is Iowa State, and they definitely have a solid program, but after visiting I’m pretty sure that I’m not going to end up there. Purdue is a really great school if you end up going there, but there are schools out of state that you may like a lot more which is something you have to take into consideration. @ntruong2118

what’s wrong with Iowa? I got accepted to that school, and I am starting to consider to go there if Purdue rejected me again

Iowa has a very good program, and you should definitely consider it, but for some reason I just didn’t really love the atmosphere there. Academics are paramount in choosing a college, but you also have to pick a place that you want to live for four years, and I wasn’t sure about that after my first visit @ntruong2118

Bump

Obvious first question: can you / your parents afford all of these schools?

Obvious second question: have you looked at Boulder?

Missing a month and a half of school and still keeping a 3.7 UW GPA is quite achievement.

That said, taking college physics (w/o calc- not sure how that works) + AP chem +3 other APs + research project + pre-calc & composition + orchestra looks like a lot for anybody - much less somebody with health issues.

Engineering programs will want to see that you are able for the math- and you will be just taking pre-calc when you apply. Depending on the school, that is not necessarily a deal-breaker (UCs are specific that it is not required; Ga Tech rarely admits with out it), but the adcomms will know that you are essentially skipping your senior year. From their perspective, admitting you means getting a younger student who will be less prepared than most of the other admits. That will not be helpful to you in admissions.
