****Obviously, my stats are not spectacular, and I'm highly unlikely to get into top schools because of my lackluster academic/ extracurricular performance so far. But in truth, I feel that I have matured throughout high school, and through my experience working with lower-income kids and trying to teach them to enjoy education and learn I have learned myself the value of education--it is not just another "mandatory" qualification for success and a source of pride, it is the chance to improve oneself to become much greater. (sounds really corny but I REALLY feel this way ;x)

So can you guys help me figure out what schools are good matches/ reaches/ safeties and chance me for schools I am interested in?

Schools of interest:
Northwestern *dream school ;x
University of Chicago ( i know... its a reach)
Barnard
NYU Stern
University of Michigan
Cornell
London School of Economics
UCLA
UC Berkeley

PLEASE DON'T BE TOO HARSH :( I KNOW I HAVE TERRIBLE STATS!!!
btw do u think liberal arts schools or research universities are better?

Low Reaches: Northwestern, UChicago, Cornell, London School of Economics
High Matches: Barnard, NYU Stern
Matches: Michigan, UC Berkeley, UCLA

I am also being a little conservative when I am chancing you. Personally, I think your stats are good for these schools. But I do not think any of these are pure safeties. IMHO research universities are better than liberal arts schools.

not too sure… but i’m considering economics/ political science majors :x i know uchicago is insane for econ 0_0 lol… would i have a higher chance by applying for a different major and then transferring? if i go to stern, then I would go for a finance major. Would a lack of business classes affect me?? (Even though I took a rigorous course load and have a 800 SAT Math score:x)

I hate to see students think rather lowly of themselves. Please don’t okay? ;)

Here’s what I think:

**Reaches:
~ University of Chicago (That was a given lol)
~ Cornell
~ London School of Economics and Political Science
~ Northwestern

**Matches:
~ University of Michigan
~ UC Berkeley
~ Benard
~ UCLA

**Safeties:
~ NYU Stern

Overall, I think you have great chances with all of these schools. Maybe try to get 2 more EC’s in to show that you’re more versatile. It’s good that you love teaching low-income kids, which is amazing by the way, but colleges also adore more than one EC. Also leadership in clubs is very important, and you’ve done a very good job maintaining those positions. You mentioned that you lacked business classes, and that’s completely okay. As long as you take it seriously in college :). To answer you last question, I think research universities are better just because of the opportunities it offers. Good luck and I hope you come out successful :). You’re fine, your stats are really good, and you’re probably one the smartest student on here. You’re fine, I know I’m saying it again, but it’s true lol.

hey guys thanks for your response! if i could score 2300+ (almost a 2400) in october and score higher sat 2 scores in november AND apply ED to northwestern and EA to uchicago… what would my chances look like??? better?? anyone who has more knowledge about chicago/northwestern help mee out please;)

definitely getting your SAT score up to 23+ would be great. I think these schools are within your reach and you have a good chance. Make sure your few ECs shine in your app
