GPA: 93/100 unweighted (school doesn't weigh GPA or put it out of 4.0)
RANK: School does not rank, or at least they don't tell us our rank

Schools I'm looking at (interested in pursuing a career in engineering or medicine):

UMich
Cornell
UT Austin
Stanford
USC
Northwestern
BU

Thanks guys, let me know if there is any info I left out.

bummmmmppppp.

Cornell: Reach
Stanford: Reach
NWU: Reach
UMI: Safety (even with OOS)
Berkeley: Match (OOS against you)
UCLA: Match (OOS against you)
UT Austin: Low match
USC: Match
BU: Safety
U Miami 8-year med: Match

thanks for your help Catria!

i know you’ll def get into cornell and BU. Northwestern too, i think.

really? I was kind of nervous due to my lack of leadership hours and research.

i know a friend who got in to Cornell with a 2100ish SAT score and 3.9ish gpa.

oh, wait i just saw your gpa. hm, sorry. i was only paying attention to the SAT! haha, i think cornell is a somewhat reach for you. maybe if you write a really good essay, you’ll have a good chance
good luck!

Stanford = very high reach (less than 10%). They want vals and sals and your grades are probably not quite there. Do not think there analysis would get much beyond this point.

Cornell, Northwestern, UT Austin = reach (10 - 33%, with chance at upper end if you apply ED) . SAT solid but not spectacular (unfortunately, most schools focus on CR + M and ignore/downplay W, which ends up hurting you a bit). EC’s by your own admission are weak and grades are probably bordering between first and second deciles (even if school does not rank they usually report deciles) in a strong curriculum. Nothing outstanding to wow them, but also nothing negative to dissuade them – just steady performance with consistent metrics showing a very good student. UT here because they take very few out of state (less than 10%).

UCB, UCLA, USC, Mich = low reaches/high matches (33 - 66%, ie around 50/50). Disagree that being OOS disadvantages you at the UC public schools. I know kids from my area, NOVA, who have gotten in there who in my opinion would not have gotten close if they were from CA. Those schools are cash strapped and like the idea of OOS students paying $50K. Don’t think Mich a safety for you, although think you have a good shot there.

Boston U = match (66 to 90%)

UMiami 8 year med no idea except generally those programs are extremely competitive.

I suggest some more safeties/matches.

UMI: Match
UTA: Match

Could you make some suggestions as to which other schools I should consider. My only requirement is that they be in or near a city. Thanks.
