Essays:
I had a somewhat difficult life. I can't really explain it here, but my writing is pretty good. Will be top-notch.

Note: I have a learning disability mainly in communication which will explain my grades in Foreign language.
Note: I'm a first generation American. I will be the first one in my family to apply to American colleges. I have a disability, that impacts my everyday life. Also, take into account that there aren't that many opportunities in a small town.

Reaches:
Stanford
Princeton
UPenn (Wharton or M&T)
M.I.T
UChicago

Matches:
Claremont McKenna College
Boston College
Boston University
UCB
Rice U
NYU
U of Miami

Safeties:
Rutgers U (in State)
Florida Institute of Tech

Put Accept, Reject, or Waitlist.
Any recommendations for colleges? Still searching.
Any books to help me with the college admission process?
I want to major in engineering and business. Have not decided yet.

I assume you are interested in the sciences? I recommend using your ACT score and your top 2 SAT2 scores as those are rather impressive. There’s no need to retake them unless you really want to. Your ECs are very nice and it is amazing that you are able to accomplish those things despite your disability.

However, I would not put Claremont, UCB, or Rice as matches. Some of them are as least as selective as the reaches you have listed above and with <20% acceptance rate, it would mean it is a reach for most people. even with excellent stats. Also, you should be aware of the costs of some of these schools. UCB OOS and NYU can be quite expensive especially if you are considering some sort of graduate school, so perhaps some cheaper options would be better or at least ones that offer significant FA.

Good luck!

I would agree with everything that the great @shawnspencer‌ said.

OOS costs can be very detrimental. I would suggest that you try to do some research and see how much merit scholarship and FA you can get from each school. Cheaper options are always better.

Good luck!

Thanks, guys! I decided that NYU and UCB are not on my list anymore.

The city is not for me and I have yet to visit UCB. I’ll add UCB if I really like it.

I got a 10 on the essay, if that helps anything. I will chance back, I promise. Bump

@Skyrio

I can’t chance the reaches completely, but I think you definitely have a chance for hopefully at least one. Really work to make your essays show your character and life situation, and overcoming the communication disability that you have could definitely make for a great topic, as long as you tie it in with something a little unique and refreshing, if that makes sense. Just stand out! You also have quite the EC list, so I would definitely list as many as possible, but try to focus on a few and go indepth with them. I think schools like the Ivies prefer a few passions over a grocery list of activities!

I think your choices for matches and safeties are accurate; you’d get accepted to all I think! I’m not too familiar with some of the schools, but it seems like with your stats they would be great matches.

UMich has great engineering and business, but I’m not sure how the out of state tuition is. It might be good to consider if you think you could get scholarships or aid.

Best of luck!

I believe that you have a bit too many reaches on your list. Work on it with your parents and get rid of 2 or 3. Do not send the SAT. The ACT score is fine but if you want to retake it go for it.
I think that you will be rejected from all of your reaches. You should get accepted from Rice if you apply ED. In the matches all of them are accepts but Claremont. I have not chanced UCB or NYU.
Chance back-http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1663167-chance-business-major.html#latest</a></p>

@BusinessInsider‌ I will chance you back but why do you say that I will be rejected from all of my reaches?

Because the reaches that you have are all very much selective. They all have admission rates below 10%. Penn Wharton also has a rate lower than 10%. The 33 score is on the lower 50% side of the spectrum for the schools. You should get into Cornell if you go ED. They have a great business program

@BusinessInsider‌ I do have a chance though, right? I’m not wasting my money by applying there.

You have a chance because you have great stats, its just that these schools reject many people with great stats. Still apply though.

@BusinessInsider‌ Thanks for the help. I posted on your thread too.

Any other advice?

Your reaches are all very difficult admits, but you’re certainly qualified for every school on your list. Your EC’s are absolutely stellar. Best of luck on your application! :)

Chance me back (I’m a fellow first generation American and a New Jerseyan): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662008-2-8-gpa-2000-first-time-sat-urm-umass-amherst-others-ea.html#latest</a></p>

Unfortunately, @BusinessInsider‌ is not an admissions insider lol. You might get into one or two reaches just because you have pretty solid ECs. The only red flag I see is your UW GPA, but your disability and unique story may make up for that. Write the best essay that anyone has ever read and you will get into those reaches.

@Oberyn‌ Is a 3.85 UW GPA really that bad? Huh? I didn’t know. Thanks for the advice.

@lbad96‌ Thanks, man! I’ll chance you back.

I think that you have a pretty good shot at most of them…
Stanford:deny
Princeton: waitlist/deny
UPenn (Wharton or M&T): Waitlist/accept
M.I.T: waitlist/deny
UChicago: Probably Accept
Claremont McKenna College: Probably accept
Boston College: Accept
Boston University: Accept
UCB: Accept
Rice U: Probably Accept
NYU:Accept
U of Miami: Accept
Rutgers U (in State): Accept
Florida Institute of Tech: Accept

I think you will get into at least 2 of your reaches but their admission rates are so low I can’t say which ones you will get in to.

Chance me back, please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1664137-chance-me-please-uchicago-williams-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

@happykid123‌ Thanks, man! I chanced you back.

Wow those are some great stats! I think you would definetly get into any of your safeties/match as well as get into one or two of your reaches:) Please chance me back: <a href=“Please Chance me for these schools and I'll be sure to chance you guys back as well ! - #11 by studentdoc - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>Please Chance me for these schools and I'll be sure to chance you guys back as well ! - #11 by studentdoc - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums;
