ILoveUofC- That’s not true everywhere. Some schools that you apply to you must apply directly into a school or department (i.e Wharton at Penn). Depending on the department you apply, you will be judged based on the applicants that surround you. If you look at certain schools, especially Penn, you will see a tremendous difference between the acceptance percentages of departments (Wharton is around 5% and the rest of the school is much higher). So yes, it most definitely does matter which major/department you apply to.

Arswan14, by “the College”, I was referring to the undergraduate division at UChicago. My comments were directed solely at Chicago. Other schools, as you point out, have different policies. My apologies for not being more clear.

My apologies ILoveUofC. I should have known that.

Thanks for the replies! I’ll just prep my case for UChicago and probably send them a letter by January.

Not familiar with all of these schools but the ones I am:

Cornell-Reach, Dartmouth-Reach, Yale- High Reach, UChicago- Reach
Colgate-Match, W&L- Match
F&M- Safety and Lafayette- Safety

These are based on the 3.38 GPA… I see that you’re explaining that it isn’t like a ‘regular’ 3.38 GPA, but I’m not really sure how to account for that. I’m also assuming that since you go to a top school, many of the Ivies and top Unis will know about it more than I and will make a decision accordingly. Best of luck!

@Smithg1227 Yeah, I’m pretty much assuming they are familiar, since we always have Ivy admits every year.

Still not getting my hopes up though. I’ll hope for the best but expect the worst, since rejection is still more likely to happen!
