Most of the class was filled by ED and EA applicants. See link. https://vt.edu/admissions/undergraduate/snapshot.html
I didnât remember seeing that breakdown for class of 2022, so I assumed they didnât post that detail. At any rate, @makersmike less than 25% of the acceptances last year came from the RD applicant pool. Response deadlines are the same for EA and RD, but itâs probably safe to assume that a decent portion of the EA applicants accept their offer during the 2 weeks prior to RDâs getting their notification, resulting in RDâs just filling in remaining enrollment holes as others have posted.
I wouldnât want my child banking on regular decision.
Seems like now with most schools having an Early Action choice, RD is more for last minute decisions and others who procrastinate. 1 of 10 of my sons apps was RD because it was a late add on .
@SandraVT Your SAT is 100 points above 2019 for females accepted into that major. Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? 2019 mean for GPA was 4.0. Iâm not sure how competitive the major is, but the cohort is very small - only 91 applied last year, 61 were offered, and 20 enrolled.

With the new dorm not coming online until Fall 2021 - this upcoming years class is going to have to be down about 600-800 from the record this year. Then I would expect the class of 2025 to be back up close to the current large class.
With unknowns being the size of the graduating class of 2021 and the actual class size of the incoming Fall 2019âs at the end of this semester (including transfers and attrition), I wouldnât venture to guess at any number or range for reduction in acceptances for Fall 2020. I still think that transfer acceptances are going to be pared down, which would make sense from both a housing and a revenue standpoint for the university.
I would definitely think transfers are going to be down to push down the current 2023 class down a bit. But even if you had a large group of seniors graduating it wouldnât help the on-campus housing issue. With the hotels going away for dorms seems they have to par down this class.
Welcome Sandra VT. As ShenVal18 mentioned ⊠you may find it harder if that is your weighted GPA but if that is unweighted you should be in good shape. Being its not a huge major where they are watching out for over-enrollment, I donât think that going Regular Decision is really going to hurt you in this case. In fact if they see enrollment going to low their may be more opportunities in regular decision. Iâm a little more concerned myself when it comes to the ED/RD percentages when it comes to the very popular majors like Engineering, Business, Biology etc.
Random thought, how bad must senior year grades be to get your Virginia Tech acceptance offer revoked?
From reading back I think getting a D or a bunch of Câs could get a letter encouraging student to be prepared for college ⊠I donât know about getting actually fully revoked. Seems it would have to be real bad.
@Volty123 My 2 cents on that topic is that for them to revoke an offer in June would basically just leave an empty seat, which (other than last year, perhaps) is just 1 less tuition being paid to the school. So, I would think itâd be rare unless they truly think that the student would ultimately fail out (wrecking their valuable retention rates). Just my opinion.
By getting a D or getting a bunch of Câs, is that for the final grade or just a quarter grade?
Final Inwould assume
If you accept an admissions offer, the remaining data they are collecting is the final transcript. If a single quarter really wrecks the overall GPA then I could see them initiating a discussion with the student, especially in the case of certain majors. If the bad quarter happens to be the final quarter in HS, I could see that being viewed with alarm by admissions and a sign that the student may not be prepared for whatâs to come. @Volty123 I know you posed this as a hypothetical, but if this happens to be a potential case for you or someone you know itâs time to really think hard about whether a gap year would be appropriate. Not everyone is ready for college right after high school.
@HappyNJ major is Business but possibly Sports Management at USC. He got into Business school but after we go to Admitted Student Day in a few weeks he may change .What about your son?
He is Cybersecurity. Only Purdue, USF and Penn State has that as a major that he applied to. VT and UT has it as a minor.
USC has a decent choice of related classes he can take there too including computer forensics.
Going to be interesting where he ends up. We just got back from USF admitted students day and it looked like a nice program.
@HappyNJ I think George Mason has a great school for cyber security Cool major. Some good choices esp nice warm Florida
