Chance me as an International Student

Well..

I am an international Student, from India.

SAT 1 - M- 720, CR - 590, W - 580
SAT 2 - Math 2 - 720
TOEFL iBT - 108

GPA - 3.8 (on a scale of 4.0 )

EC -
Alot of extra-cirricular like national basketball and state soccer

200+ hours of volunteer service.

Financially capable.

About 10% chance. Extremely competitive for International and OOS students.

its all depend upon ur luck...

no, I think it's better than 10%. I would say 40%-50%.

Yes, the SAT didn't help in any form, but the TOEFL is really impressive(108/120 when 100 is the standard), which no one seemed to mention.

I had never heard of the TOEFL, but I doubt it is taken as seriously as the SAT. And I would say you probably won't get in and the 10% figure is about right. The SAT will probably be weighted pretty heavily, and a 1310 OOS isn't great.

of course you've never heard of TOEFL (especially if you're a caucasian American), but TOEFL is extremely important and well known to international students. For international students, it's just as important if not more important than the SAT. I'm going to stay with the 40%-50% estimation for now.

I like how make assumptions about my race... and I'm Indian(born here) by the way. UT will probably hold his SAT higher than the TOEFL, especially if its Engineeirng or Business. A 1310 is not going to be good enough for OOS more than likely. I mean a friend of mine had a 1400+ in state and didn't get in.

Oh... Ok .. That was inspiring ...

I never directly assumed you were a Caucasian, but if you never heard of TOEFL, you're more than likely Caucasian (by far the greatest chance). If you are Indian, you should at least have heard of TOEFL from a relative who is potentially trying to get into a US college. To them, it's very big. I'll admit that I don't know how much UT weighs the TOEFL compared to the SAT, but then again, you have no clue either. What I do know is that people in the Pacific Northwest (used to visit there twice a year) study the TOEFL more furiously than the SAT and I'm sure there is a great reason for that(and those who surpass 100 usually get into decent colleges... as in ones better than UT Austin).

foxshox is right about the SAT. Many instate students with 1400+ don't get in. The TOEFL is important, but universities don't brag about their TOEFT scores like they do the SAT and ACT scores.

All you can do is go ahead and apply. I wish you good luck!

Out of what I have heard so far all I can say is that it all depends on luck. Doesn't it ? I mean my sister's friend got in there with a 1240 and a 102 in TOEFL and you are saying that your friend didn't get in with a 1400+ score, it can be really confusing. Anyways thanks with the help

The way UT decides which not-top-10%-Texas-students to admit (be they from Texas, out of state, or international) is based on the way they subjectively view the combination of the student's Academic Index and Personal Achievement Index.

I am international.
SAT is much more important than the TOEFL. TOEFL is just something to show that you understand English. I think you might need a better SAT.
