-I know my S2 grades of sophomore year were rocky, and there is a reason for this. This was the semester I "came out of the closet" at my school and it did not go over smoothly with students along with my family.. I know I take full responsibility for my grades, but this will be explained to the schools I apply to..

ECS

-Newspaper- sophomore, reporter; junior, opinion editor
-Student Council- freshman, secretary;sophomore, member;junior, member
-Key Club- freshman, member
-Cross Country- freshman thru senior, runner (didn't race that much senior year due to coach not letting mr run--my college class interferes with practice)
-Job- since sophomore year, in fast food. I work about 15-20 hrs a week
-Volunteer 1-4 hrs a week at the local hospital's emergency room
-NHS- junior, member; senior, vice president
-GSA- sophomore, member

Hook: As I've stated before I think it is to my advantage to be a first generation college student and American. I also think that it helps that I'm gay (not for admissions reasons specifically, but to help "diversify" the student body)

Essay: A epiphany, and how I want to change the world.

Counselor Rec: Really good. She marked me top 1% for personality/character and top 5% for extracurriculars/academics. Also said I took "most demanding" courses.

Teacher Rec: One is really good (AP US teacher) and the other one I have not read (AP English teacher, junior year)

Think I have a chance at Kenyon (applying ED) and Macalester?

(I've visited/interviewed at both schools as well!)

I think you would make both schools, just explain that D and everything should work out for you
here is mine
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/592751-chancing-near-impossibility.html

You will definitely in. No need to worry, unlike me

Chance me please
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/592799-i-think-i-have-decent-shot-what-do-you-think.html

Thanks for the opinions, but I really think you two are underestimating the selectiveness of Kenyon and Macalester....

Anyone agree?

Neat we're taking kind of the same classes this year lol. ACT score needs to go up a few points and essays sound cliche, other than that everything looks golden (except D). Can you even mention that you're gay on the app? lol

Boost or cripple my confidence please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/590601-omg-average-student-cc-what-odds.html

I agree ACT is low, but at least im in both school's 50% range =]

Also my essay is kinda cliche, but I threw in some quirky twists that make it "mine"!

And I don't plan on just stating "I'm Gay." I'm going to write a short paragraph about some of my experiences, and i've already mentioned it to both schools during my interview!

anyone else?

anyone? :/

Last bump of the night!

new day, new chances ?

As promised, I will chance back!

You haven't chanced me back yet lol

Okay, so i think you have it in, if you apply ED for Kenyon, the fact you are first generation will help out a ton, you should be worried about your ACT however. Best of luck. Chance me please? thanks http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/592997-help-help-potential-nyu-stern-applicant.html

You're actually in pretty good standing. You're kind of in the same boat as I am in terms of standardized testing and unweighted GPA (you may be a little higher, though, but that D in Geometry will kill you), but I think that you'll do fine. Kenyon and Macalester are selective, yes, but not as selective as, say, U of Chicago, Swarthmore, and the like. These are definitely match schools for you.

Chance in return, please: Link

Kenyon is highly selective, but your GPA & class rank are very strong. Kenyon loves ED apps, in my opinion, and that should help. Not sure of how accepting the campus community will be though. Macalester is a great match for you. Consider Wheaton College in Massachusetts (liberal, formerly all female & close to both Providence & Boston). Also you may want to consider Vassar College, Oberlin, Grinnell, Skidmore College, Bard, Dickinson and Hendrix.

thanks so much, any others?

You seem lacking in ECs, somewhat on test scores, and in places on your GPA. But it's quite possible that you'll get accepted into both colleges because of your URM status (well...depends what your ethnicity is - you didn't specify) as well as your orientation. Those two things are harpoons, not hooks for ultraliberal colleges like Kenyon and Macalester. I'd place them as mid-high matches if you make sure you write an essay about your experience "coming out", and mentioning its connection with your grades.

Chance me? Thank you!

thanks =]

anyone else?

I think you're pretty much in at both schools with good essays and recs.
