Chance me at Northwestern and other Universities Please

What are my chances as a transfer?

I went through a bad phase attributed by problems in family during the second semester of my junior year and the first semester of my senior year. I got mostly B+'s in all my classes during those two semesters.

All the schools that I am applying to are reach schools, but I figure it is worth the try. Any suggestions on how to better my chances? I feel like aspect of my application lacks, so let me know what you think.

Schools I am applying to as a transfer: Northwestern, Brigham Young George Washington University, and UC Davis

Objective:
ACT: Composite:27 E:30 M:29 R:26 SR: 24 Writing:10 ( I am a slow test taker..., but I plan to retake it in June)
SAT II: I have not taken any but will take the following in June: Biology, Math 2, and US History

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%
AP: AP Micro/Macro (5/4), AP US History(4), AP Language and Composition(3), AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP Statistics, AP Goverment

CC courses I will take over the sumer: Managerial Accounting, Computer Science, and Calculus 1.

Awards: 8 School awards (meaningless) and won a competitive scholarship that interviewed students from my state.

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): French Club (3 years till it got cut), NHS, XC 2 years (discontinued my senior year because of a bad injury that had surgery), National Honor Society,

Job/Work Experience:campaign volunteer for political campaign (1 years), support staff for district government offices (1 year), CEO of my buisness (2 years), I will work at a law firm over the summer

Volunteer/Community service: 100 hours as a server at a homeless shelter (2 years)

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First Generation College, URM

You have a shot but I would say that your hooks are just keeping you competitive. You really news to bring up your test scores, preferably 32+. Why don’t you try the SAT? You get more time

I hate the fact that we do not know the order of the sections on the SAT, but I will take a practice exam after the ACT to see where I stand. And I doubt I can break 30 on the ACT because I can never finish the reading and science passages…Do you guys think that having my own business and recent involvement in political extracurriculars could make up for my lack of school extracurriculars?

Your extracurriculars are severely lacking. Obviously your test scores are poor as well in comparison to where they should be to be considered at NU, but you have time to make up for that. Your GPA, too, is far too low to make up for the ACT.

I’m not discouraging you from applying, but you must realize what you are up against.

Would it be best to bring my test scores up and get involved over the summer and next year so that I can apply to transfer sophomore year or should I just forget about it and try to transfer my junior year with better stats and better school extra curriculars?

I guess I do not understand what you’re asking. If you’re a senior now, where will you be attending this upcoming year?

You’ll have to do something special regardless of what you decide to do. The ACT and GPA won’t be improved, so make sure you maximize your opportunities wherever you decide to attend.

I am an high school senior that will be attending a third tier university.

My public high school was ranked a top 500 high school my freshman year, but it has gone done hill and cut just about every extracurricular. That is part of why my extracurriculars lack. Would having a teacher letter of recommendation mention that help me in anyway? I guess that this is somewhat of a fetal attempt and I really have to grow in the coming year so that I am competitive.

That’s not a legitimate excuse. You have to create your opportunities rather than having them come to you. Colleges will undoubtedly frown upon you justifying your lack of ECs due to the school making cuts (a common occurrence in most districts).

I think you have a pretty good shot into acceptance @ NU. Increasing your scores may help, but they still cannot guarantee admission into Northwestern.

Have you read the thread at all?

At this point, if I got 750+ on all three of my SATs II, managed to bring my ACT score to a 31 along with a 4.0 GPA my first semester of college and had more unique extracurriculars that showed my passion for politics and did sports in college, would I have a chance?

Obviously, there is no formula for admissions. I had a 4.0 my freshman and sophomore year of high school, but then I went through a bad phase that overwhelmed me.
