Hi everyone,
I’m currently a senior in high school and it has been my dream to work in the medical field as a nurse and, hopefully, a nurse practitioner in the future. I have mostly been looking into nursing programs in California (UCLA, UCI, CSULB, SDSU, etc.) but I know that they are super impacted all over the state and extremely competitive.
GPA UW: 3.89
GPA W: 4.67
GPA CAPPED: 4.33
SAT: 1360 (new)
EC: private tutor, CSF, UNICEF, circle of friends, and some other small clubs at school
I think my stats are pretty decent, but my EC’s are definitely weak. Do I still have a chance at being accepted into a nursing program?
UCI/UCLA have around 3% acceptance rates for their direct admit nursing school, so there is no way to chance an applicant. It is like buying a lottery ticket.
CSULB looks like a Match for Pre-Nursing.
SDSU again is a direct admit program and you look like a very qualified applicant but cannot give you any guarantees but you are definitely on target.
I would also add CSU Fullerton to your list. They have a direct admit program and would be a Match.
Good Luck.
Are you in state or out of state?
Also, if you want to be a nurse practitioner then I would suggest you look into the PA field, which requires a masters degree. PA, or Physician Assistant, is virtually the same as a nurse practitioner, but you can earn a degree in biology and then apply to the masters programs. As I am sure you know, it would be much easier to earn admission into a biology program than a nursing one. Just a suggestion
