I know my SAT score is pretty low, but is an SAT score of 2300 or above absolutely necessary to even be considered at Yale? Should I try taking the ACT?

Am I way in over my head here?

I’m gonna be honest here and say that it’s gonna be really, really, really hard for you to get in. Your GPA and SAT are low for Yale (2300 is not required but most applicants need a 2200+ to be competitive), ECs are pretty basic, and awards don’t show much achievement in those ECs (no regional, state, national awards).

However, that’s not to say that you can’t get into another great university and be successful. Yale (and other top schools) are just too selective.

Well, you may have a lesser chance than most other applicants, but the point is that the chance is there! If you take a look at my stats, then you’d see that I was average in just about every way… but apparently Yale saw something there! Or maybe they just needed average people to round out their amazing kids haha…the point is, I’m pretty average and I got in, so you have every chance as I do!

I don’t think the GPA will kill you, but the SAT is a bit low,try the ACT and see what happens, there’s no need to retake math 2, but make sure your other scores are high, AP’s/awards don’t seem phenomenal either, how are your essays/recs and are you in a competitive region?
