Chance me? CC Transfer as Rising 3rd Year (Fall 2018)

Hey guys! I’m applying this winter with hopes of being admitted as a 3rd year for Fall 2018(Class of 2020). Coming from in state CC under a guaranteed admissions agreement, except i’m not sure if i’m guaranteed admission because of two small discrepancies below(under stats). That being said, can you guys chance me as a regular transfer applicant? If you have experience with the GAA, maybe know something about my situations possible outcomes?

Background:
-Intend to major in Econ
-Asian Male
-First generation born in US
-VA Native

Stats:
-GPA: 3.5/4.0
-Magna Cum Laude with High Honors (by the skim of my teeth lol, 3.5+ at my CC qualifies for MCL)
-Dean’s List x4 semesters, 2x Presidential Scholar
-Strong essay
-2 academic evaluators (recommendations)

EC’s:
-Currently Founding/President of Finance related club at CC
-Currently Founding/President of Professional Development related club at CC
-Volunteer/Fundraising/Charity work
-Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification

Work/Relevant Experience:
-Current part-time business/data internship at tech. company
-Summer 2017 Bloomberg Financial Analytics internship in London
-Studied financial markets abroad in London, Summer 2017

What do you guys think? My CC has a guaranteed admissions agreement with UVA, so on the common app I have checked that i’m applying under GAA; I meet all of the requirements except for two discrepancies:
-I have a D from one of my first semesters
-I have no foreign language credits, it is way too late for me to get that done as applications are due in spring and UVA wants them up to the 200 level - I have been told not to worry too much about the foreign language requirement as it can be made up over the summer, what do you guys think? Do you think that I will be forfeited from the GAA? I have been told UVA is “flexible” about the GAA (even says so on their website but this is very vague).

Cheers, and good luck everyone!

Bump. Nobody?

Assuming you are transferring to Arts and Sciences. Because you are instate I’d say you have a good shot. And I think only the Commerce school requires you complete foreign language before you start but you should check on that. Get it done sooner than later or make sure you really try and kill the placement exam so you can be exempt from taking it. If you took the SAT subject test for a foreign language that may help as well. Good luck!

Bump.

Thanks @Collegehelp4us , 4 semesters of foreign language is required in the CAS before you can graduate.

bump

yes but you can place into higher level classes. My son placed into level 4 so after this class he is done with the requirement. SO if you took a language in HS brush up on it so you can kill the placement exam!

If you speak another language, definitely take the SAT subject test for it! CAS will exempt you from the language requirement, and it will help you fulfill the GAA reqs. Although, I was told that of the 600+ transfer they admit every year, only like 50 get in under GAA so don’t sweat the GAA. Your stats look good anyway @msport

But about that D, it won’t count toward your 45 transferable credits if you do use GAA.

@CommCollTransfer My language (Urdu/Punjabi) isn’t on the subject test curriculum :stuck_out_tongue:

But thanks! & it actually works out that it won’t transfer because I retook that course and got an A. Thanks for the feedback!
