I'm really nervous about applying because although I do think I'm smart, I'm not sure if my standards are even close to theirs. I do have an IEP and I'm labeled as "gifted", but I'm pretty sure most applicants are. I recieve all A's except for last year when I recieved one or two B's.

My courses this year are;
Honors Geometry
English 9 (no honors)
Introduction to Physical Science (again, no honors)
World History
Spanish 1
Religion (I go to a catholic school)

EC's:
Guitar 2 years
Voice lessons 1 year
Oddysey of the Mind 5 years
Mensa
Science Club
Yearbook Committee
SADD Club
Softball 9 years
Volleyball 1 year
Basketball 2 years

I plan on doing track also. I know my essays are going to be really good, my interviews should go good, and I'm going to get a STELLAR rec for my common rec and good recs from my math and english teacher.
What do you think?

Depending on how you do on the SSAT, I think you are a good candidate for Blair. When you visit and interview, be sure to show your interest in the school.

Blair is a great school with a lovely campus, warm community and challenging academics.

I had a son go there for 4 happy years. If you have any questions, you can ask me here or send me a private message.

If you are applying for financial aid, admission is more competitive. You might consider adding one or two more schools that you love and that place you in the top 25% of applicants.

Are you planning to visit your schools and interview there? If you have talent in softball, you might want to talk to the coaches.

Admission to Hotchkiss and Choate is very competitive. I think you are in the running, but the majority of applicants are also in the running. When you write your applications, be certain that the talents you bring to the schools are clear.

thanks for your response. i won’t be applying for financial aid. i know as far as grades and ec’s go i’m not exactly memorable, but do you think if i write really good essays, my interviews go well and i score above an 85 on the SSATs, it would make a difference as far as choate and hotchkiss go?

My son is now in his second year at Hotchkiss. Like most kids applying to top BSs, he had very good grades, recs, ECs, essays, etc. But what seemed to separate his apps from others, based upon chats and other exchanges I have had with admin officers at THS, was the fact that my son faced, and then overcame, some substantial adversities. To help your apps to schools, think about telling stories in them about meeting and overcoming major setbacks. Such are the cornerstones of a successful and meaningful life.
