Chance Me EA please

I have already submitted my app--and the recent October act scores really boosted my app I feel like. My admissions counselor for my state warned against applying EA (this was when I had a 32 ACT) but I did anyways. Please give me an idea of what to expect in the coming month. Feedback is appreciated as well as honesty.

You should have listened. I think you need to be ready for deferral at best. Your grades are OK, ACT is Good, not great, and EC’s are average at best. EA is for the best of the best. Sorry, just my opinion.

While I thank you for the feedback, I feel like I disagree with the grades being OK. I thought they were a highlight in my app–I haven’t a single grade below A- on my transcript, and none since freshman year. 4.0 uw GPA soph and junior years

My rank is 16/651 if that makes a difference

Your resume is outstanding - I think you have a great shot.

Best of luck to you.

Your academics appear solid - I agree with you that a 3.92 UW is great. Your 33 ACT puts you in the mid-50% range. Your course rigor sounds strong with four AP and three IB, although we don’t know the context of your high school. Being in the top 3% is good, especially if all 650 of your classmates will attend college.

Your ECs sound a bit thin, although your extensive work history could be impressive - based on your short description here, it might be the most unique part of your app. This would be especially true if your family needs the income from your jobs.

I don’t understand how your essays describing who you are NOT can be effective, but I realize the difficulty of summarizing a personal essay in two sentences. Usually it is a better approach to positively assert who you are.

Talk to your GC. He will have a historical perspective as to how students with resumes similar to yours from your high school have fared with admission to highly selective universities. Ask if you can see the Naviance report.

My school is not the best by any means–general public school with some very bright students while others are not. My course rigor I feel like is fine. My essays were more or less extremely personal. I talked about not using drugs as my greatest accomplishment because it has allowed me to stay focused with the important things. The religion thing covered two essay topics, in which I talked about how I became obsessed with science and Christianity in the aspects that contradict each other–how I studied, bought books, and truly challenged an idea that others just took for granted. Idk it felt very personal to my beliefs and what warrants my interests–the unknown things that no one can reasonably state as fact.

I think you’ll probably get deferred based on my own discussion with the ND admissions counselor. Not abusing drugs seems like an interesting essay topic…

I thank you all for the responses by the way

How would a 3.92 be “OK” grades? I think they’re good and you have a shot. I applied EA as well so I’m just crossing my fingers! Good luck!

Agree, 3.92 are great grades, but you were asking relating to EA. My 2 who got in EA had 3.98, and the one who got in off WL had 3.96. This is my point of reference. Many 4.0’s don’t get in. It truly is “the whole package”. Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone. I know that it’s a crapshoot, just hoping I can get into ND early so I don’t have to worry about applying to twenty different schools–it would make college app season a whole lot easier.
