Can't think of anything else! Hope thats enough!

PENN values the essays and teacher recs above gpa, SAT and clubs. How do you think you did in those two areas. Son applied early and got in last year. He had the grades and scores but I really think the esssay made the difference. If you go to Penn’s site they will give you the order of importance of each component of the application.

You’re right, those are one of the most important parts. Unfortunately, there’s no way to be sure how good they are. As for me:

My Essays:
Penn supplement: About activites that Penn does that I want to be involved in and how I seek to work to encourage innovation in West Philly Schools.
Penn Optional: 150 word limit, so I did a little creative thing and wrote what I imagine people see when they meet me for the first time.
M&T: Wrote about business and engineering and why I decided that I needed a business degree and an engineering degree in order to go into technology enterpreneurship

My Recs:
From my Counselor, Physics Teacher (also sci-oly coach), and History Teacher. They should all be good.

Based on that, do you think I have a shot?

<bump> Anyone else have ideas?</bump>

I like your chances! Though promises would be unwise when discussing an ivy, I think you’re an easy in for SEAS. M&T is as hard to chance for as it is to get in to, so what follows should be taken with a grain of salt.

My two cents:

  • Standardized tests are excellent but not at the level that they would be impressive for a perspective M&T – they definitely won’t hold you back, but this is NOT one of your hooks.
  • Same comment applies to GPA
-I have no grounds for evaluating your ECs, as I really don’t get the lingo or meaning of most terms mentioned. Everyone seems to be listing them, and I would say that yours sound less forced and more impressive than most chance threads I’ve read.

This is what I would say you have going for you:

  • Passion for Utimate, which if voiced powerfully is definitely a big plus.
  • BUSINESS – I googled you guys (as I suspect adcoms might) and found your site. VERY impressive! Keep it updated (what’s with the News section? I would get on that quickly) and give your FB group’s info section a once-over (edit it like an essay for better phrasing imo).
  • A strong science commitment that is apparent from ECs

As I said, you have a good shot even for M&T imo. Take into account that all bets are off for these elite programs.
Hope to see you next year and good luck!

Impressive! I think you will have a great chance to get in! I am also applying to M&T and SEAS as ED. : )
