Recommendation Letters and Essays------------------------------

Essays are good. But i will revise and make it really good.

I'm applying for Chemical Engineering for these schools:
(Hardest to Easiest. Only my opinion though.)

MIT
Stanford
Cooper Union (ED)
Princeton
Cornell
Rice
Carnegie Mellon
Northwestern
Vanderbilt
NYU
University of Toronto
University of McGill
Georgia Tech
Texas at Austin
Ohio State
Texas A&M

I will chance back!!!!!

Schools above NYU are reaches and MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Cornell are pretty much out of the picture due to rank outside of top 5% and low SAT scores.

GPA = pretty good
SAT = meh
SAT 2 = good
EC’s = good

MIT (mid-high reach)
Stanford (mid-high reach)
Cooper Union (ED) (unfamilar with school)
Princeton (mid-high reach)
Cornell (low reach/high match)
Rice (high match)
Carnegie Mellon (match)
Northwestern (low reach)
Vanderbilt (low reach/high match)
NYU (in)
University of Toronto (in)
University of McGill (in)
Georgia Tech (in)
Texas at Austin (in)
Ohio State (in)
Texas A&M (in)

Can you explain
Low reach, reach, high reach, low match, match, and high match?

Bumpppppppp

Low reach = going to be kinda hard to get in
reach = hard to get in
high reach = nearly impossible, but stranger things have happened
low match = you’re basically in, your numbers are better than the average admitted
match = you basically have the average numbers admitted
high match = a little under the average admitted, but definitely possible to get in

idk if i explained these good enough haha, its just how i think of them

That was nice :]

Mind chancing me while you’re at it? hehehe

I need more opinions!!!

Chance PLZ people!! will chance back!!

Hey! A fellow MAO Member! :D

Your SAT I score is a bit low, but the rest of your stats look okay. Do you have leadership in any of the EC you mentioned?

Reach:
MIT
Stanford
Cooper Union (ED)
Princeton
Cornell

Kinda Reach:
Carnegie Mellon
Vanderbilt

Match:
Rice
Northwestern

In:
NYU
University of Toronto
University of McGill
Georgia Tech
Texas at Austin
Ohio State (in)
Texas A&M (in)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1023427-chance-me.html</a></p>

MIT, Stanford, Princeton & Cornell are the reaches imo
vandy, carnegie, northwestern & rice are matches and the rest are safeties imo

BTW - You gotta tell me how you raised your SAT score by so much… I took it freshmen year and got a 1560, i’m retaking it this year and hope to get 1800+ haha

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1025013-bunch-different-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

^^ Leadership would be: MarchingBand section leader; Worshipping team founder and leader; clarinet 1st chair; and bible studying teacher.
It’s not much.

And hmm… i’d love to go to Northwestern!!! I really want to get in!!!

@James1G:
Although my scores aren’t great, i did improve a lot.
Basically i did 40 practice tests in this order.

Kaplan 11 practice tests.
Princeton Review 12 practice tests
Barrons 5 practice tests
Collegeboard 10 practice tests.

And in between a few Gruber and other ones. (They weren’t very helpful)

I usually get 800’s on math but i was unlucky… made some dumb mistakes.
i usually skipped the math part when i was studying.
And when i got questions wrong, i went back and checked. I also marked the ones i guessed on, so that i can go back on those too.

reading is the hardest to improve. Writing is easy. Math is easy.

More chances please people!! hehehe

Awesome, where can I get all these practice tests? I have different SAT books but they only have like 3-4 tests in them lol

^
Amazon.com probably has them. They sell those cheaply so just look around and you’ll find them.

More chance please!!!
I have to narrow down some of this list!!!

MIT High Reach
Stanford High Reach
Cooper Union (ED) Reach
Princeton High Reach
Cornell High Reach
Rice Reach
Carnegie Mellon Low Reach
Northwestern Mid-High Reach
Vanderbilt Mid-High Reach
NYU Match
University of Toronto Low Match
University of McGill Low Match
Georgia Tech High Match
Texas at Austin Low Match
Ohio State In

Dang. I was hoping for a better chance for Vandy and NU…
Ah I really want to get in!!

MIT is almost always a no with a 750 math and non-perfect math 2. But I suppose anything’s possible.

Soo what about other schools??

I’m with most of the others.
You’ve got pretty excellent chances at NYU and below; above it gets kinda harder.

MIT / High reach
Stanford / High reach
Cooper Union (ED) / Reach
Princeton / Reach
Cornell / Reach
Rice / Low-mid reach
Carnegie Mellon / Low-mid reach
Northwestern / Low-mid reach
Vanderbilt / Reach
NYU / Match
University of Toronto / Match
University of McGill / Low match
Georgia Tech / Match
Texas at Austin / In
Ohio State / In
Texas A&M / In

Ugh that sucks. Would a good essay cover my bad score?
Also would coming from AL help much?

Unfortunately, places like MIT and Stanford have been getting stingier and more selective, so it would require more than a good essay to “hide” scores. Can you take the SAT again before your application is in?

It’s definitely better to be from Alabama than, for example, New York, but that’s likely to be only a “tiebreaker” statistic.
