My high school career has been disappointing so far. Unfortunate personal circumstances has seen me obtain a 2.7 GPA thus far, forcing me to cut back on my Loyola MD aspirations and look in-state for the most part. However, I did pretty well on the PSAT (SAT equivalent is a 1580). My score showed my potential to succeed in AP classes. My current schedule is this:
- Pre-Calculus (doing okay)
- English 3 (doing pretty well)
- Spanish 2 (struggling)
- US History 2 (decent)
- Chemistry 1 (best class)

I'm currently looking at this potential schedule for senior year:
- AP Euro
- AP Psych
- French 1
- Environmental Science
- Discrete Math/Probability of Statistics (both semester courses)

I'm an African-American male planning on being an international business major.

Assuming I do well for the rest of this year, and get a B+ average in my AP classes as well as an A average in everything else as a senior, and get the SAT equivalent of my PSAT score, what are my chances of acceptance into:
- Montclair State
- Pace
- Monmouth University
- Rider University
- Fairleigh Dickinson

I forgot to add ECs:
9th grade: nothing
10th grade: Young Dems, Helping Hands
11th grade: Young Dems, Helping Hands, Support Our Troops, Water for Africa, Gifts of Gold, Smiles For Seniors
12th grade: probably everything already mentioned, might even create a Geography Club as well.

GPA is a little low, but your EC and test scores should help quite a bit for those schools and I think you don’t have anything to worry about. The only one that may be a little bit of a reach is Seton Hall. Good luck!! Thanks for chancing me earlier!

If you didn’t already, write in your essays about your unfortunate earlier circumstances and what you learned from them and how they helped you grow.

@sportsgirl0107 I agree with you on the first post. I think I’ll start my college essays in late June, though. Especially because nine schools is a LOT. Thanks for chancing back! :)

Currently your GPA is considered on the lower end of the spectrum for some of these schools. But I believe a rigorous course load your senior year and impressive first semester grades could make a difference. Unfortunately, senior year grades aren’t factored into the GPA that gets sent to colleges so for right now I would consider these schools a reach. However, some good SAT/ACT scores (SAT: 2000+, ACT: 30+) will get you into these schools. Good luck, and please chance me back!
