Colleges that I am looking at:

Safeties/Matches: Hendrix, Rhodes, Lawrence, UW-Madison
Reaches: Middlebury, Claremont-McKenna, Dartmouth, UW-Madison Honors

I would appreciate chances and also opinions on my list, such as whether to add more reach schools or safety schools or whatnot. Thank you!

Also add WUSTL to that list

Dartmouth, Middlebury and Washington are almost definitely out of reach.

^ Ditto with billabongboy on these schools because of your SAT/ACT scores. Re-take both for a shot at WashU and Claremont Mc. I think the other two are probably just reaching too high, but give at least Middlebury a shot.

I’m going to study hard core for the ACT these next couple of weeks and I’m really hoping for a 33 because I got my 31 with no studying and a pretty bad attitude (I was thinking why am I sitting in a classroom on a beautiful spring day the whole test). If that happens it should hopefully open up a few more options

I disagree.

You come from a state that, unfortunately, is not known to have a very rigorous academic environment, which means that the only way to properly evaluate your class rank and GPA would be to take them in to context of your school. Now, this is why school’s use uniform and standardized tests, so as to bypass any regional bias. Even if you were to score a 33 on your ACTs, that alone would still be in the the lower quartiles for schools like WUSTL and Dartmouth, meaning that it won’t really open any options for you.

That’s not to say that you shouldn’t apply, because, as we all know, reaches exist for a reason. Pick the school you like the most, ED to it, and hope for the best.

Hm, interesting point, I never thought about the “academic environment” of Wisconsin, but if it means anything 5 students from my school last year got accepted into Stanford. I will still take more time to think about which schools I am going to apply to, and no matter what happens, I know I will have at least one school that I will be attending for 4 years.

Also, I think I’m going to add Oberlin to this list too, but that’s the last school I’m going to add.
