Have recently become really interested in American University. I'm a junior in high school and as of now (even though it's a ways away) I really think this is my number 1 and I'm probably going to end up applying ED.

Class Rank: 39/280
Weighted GPA: 4.15
Honors English 1, 2, AP English 3, taking AP English next year
Honors World History, AP US history 1 & 2
Honors Spanish 3, 4, taking AP Spanish next year.
Honors Civics this year, AP European history next year

AU focuses a lot of leadership (not just participating in things), so I’d tick that up. It really wants to know you are interested in what it does (politics, leadership, international), so make sure to show a lot of interest. If you are able, visit a time or two, go to local events it may offer, etc.

I would say that your grades make you over qualified, but as you pointed out yourself, your SAT may not be on par. However, I think you will ultimately be admitted because of your great grades.

Two tips:
Try the ACT
Look into test optional schools. Is American one of them? I feel like it may be.

You’re above American’s average SAT score, your grades are good. The only thing is you probably need MUCH more community service, and by that I mean volunteering with a congressman, court house, NGO… Something BIG. I feel many kids do stuff at the local library, and while it is service, it’s not life-changing kind of service.

That said, you look pretty good for American. I’d say match.
