What are my chances for American University

Junior in high school
GPA: 3.7 (4.0 weighted)
Rank: Top 20% of my class (54/300)
SAT Scores: 1940 (630 CR, 710 Math, 600 Writing). I have only taken the SAT once and that was my score.

Sports: Cross Country (Varsity, 3 years), Swimming (Varsity, 3 years), Tennis (Varsity, 2 years)
Extracurricular Activities: Marching Band (1 year), National English Honors Society (1 year)

Honors Classes: I have taken 7 honors courses so far
Regular Classes: I have taken 2 regular courses
AP Classes: 3 AP classes (I will be taking 3 more next year for a total of 6 by graduation)
Electives: I have taken 12 electives classes
Language: 3 years of Spanish

I have no work experience but I'm looking for a job this summer and I am getting into a few charity projects by the end of senior year.

The average SAT score for American class of 2014 (the class that just got accepted) was 1220-1390
The average GPA score for the American class of 2014 (The class that just got accepted for next fall) was 3.6-4.1

Maybe get a few leadership positions and add a couple more EC’s but it looks to me like a low match. Your stats and courseload are definitely on par.

I was accepted to AU’s Honors Program with similar stats (higher class rank though).

Thanks for your honesty! I’ll be undertaking two leadership roles next year (Captain of the cross country team and section leader in the school band). One of the biggest things I regret is not getting more into school organizations. I play 3 sports and I’m part of two clubs.

Next year I hope to join another club where I am part of a committee to help raise money for cancer, as well as participate in more charity around my neighborhood.

My GPA is a bit higher than 3.7 because I’m now taking more classes and the AU average (Between 3.6-4.1) is weighted, so I think my chances will improve greatly.
