chance me for Bates/Macalester/NYU?

I'm pretty confident in my essay-writing abilities, but still nervous...the other schools I'm applying to are UChicago (my super reach), Bard, UConn, and UVM.

You know, the 3.4 makes your app look bad, but if you’re in the top 10% of your class, I don’t think it’ll be as detrimental to your app as it initially appears.

Chicago - Reach
Bard - Match
UConn - In
UVM - In

yeah, that’s my biggest fear. I stand to do really well this year, though, even if it won’t make a difference.

any ideas about Macalester, Bates, or NYU?

At its simplest and purest, but not fool-proof: in theory, the SATs are a more standardized way to judge a kid than gpa- because some schools inflate grades, have easier classes, etc, while others are so challenging it’s hard to get an A. What rounds out the picture is the difficuclty of the classes one takes (general math v. calculus; the number of APs/honors, etc.) Then, the ECs and your level of participation in them. Face it, you’re top 7%, so this must be quite a challenging hs. You’re loaded with AP/honors. Good ECs. Very good SATs. I’d say you ave super chances at all three schools- just do well in the interview and essay.

Also, not sure about Macalester and Bates, but I’d say you have a pretty good shot at NYU. Probably a match.

DO apply to Bates and Macalester. If you don’t get into those, it’s just the luck of the draw.
