no hooks to speak of
complicated family situation- father was an alcoholic, had a severe brain injury when I was 10. He is unable to live on his own and our family lost most of its savings keeping him in a home where he would be well cared for- they don't cover that under health insurance. Lived nearly my whole life with a single mom struggling to keep our lives stable on social security and a job that was the best she could get. I plan on having my guidance counselor write about this, she cried a little bit when I told her how all I wanted in life was to make him proud, or just get him to remember my name. That should be a decent write-up.

Essay: I have a few written out that I plan on tweaking, all have received high praise from my guidance counselor and AP English teacher. Writing is one of my stronger points.

Recs: one will be from AP English teacher (loves me+my writing), one will be from AP Calculus teacher (I spent lots of time after school in her room, so she can attest to me being a hard worker). I might have a third from my sophomore year Honors Chem teacher- he said I was the best student he's ever had.

APs: Calculus AB, USH, English Lang (no scores yet but based on practice tests they should be 4s or 5s)
Schedule: all honors throughout high school- my school only offers APs to juniors and seniors. 5 APs next year (6 exams- 1 class combines Macro+Microecon)

Community Service: 300+ hours total, 200 from volunteering at local science museum, others from service club I started, teaching children from low-income areas about money @ local banks, Freshman Orientation leadership position, volunteering at fundraisers for my dad's house, various other places around the community

Work Experience: internship at local science museum this summer- I will be developing a new exhibit for the children's area.

Extracurriculars:
-I started a club at my high school that works through a local charity to throw birthday parties for homeless children. I plan on emphasizing this a lot on college apps as it means a lot to me (founder, co-president, 10, 11)
-SADD (treasurer,10, 11)
-Gay-Straight Alliance (publicist, 9, 10)
-Freshman Orientation Leader (10, 11)
-Drama Club (acting, set design, a few principal roles, 9, 10, 11. Running for president, been told by current officers I will be a shoo-in)
-Chemistry Club (10)
-French Club (9,10,11)
-Calculus Club (11)
-STEM Pathway (puts together science-related events at my school, 11)
-Model United Nations (founding member, attended several conferences, 10, 11)
-National Honors Society (not officially admitted yet, but told by advisors that I will be)
**I will be continuing these extracurriculars next year, except for Chem club because the advisor left.

Awards: National recognition for score on National French Exam (9, 10, 11), various local awards. I got the Brown Book Award at my school and have written the alumnus who donated it... I haven't the faintest idea if that helps, but I guess it can't hurt.

I know that I don't have the most outstanding application out there, and I know that these chances are arbitrary anyways, but I'd really love some reassurance that I'm on the right track at the very least. I'd be happy to chance back too!

Thanks!
