I calculated my GPA of sophomore (3.9) and freshman year (3.8)

bumpy bump. I can’t believe no one has an opinion on this.

I think you could have a chance—the junior grades are a little bit concerning, considering it’s generally the most important year GPA-wise. I also think people don’t like commenting on “chance me” post for schools like Brown, because stats and extracurriculars on a page aren’t necessarily an indicator of whether you’ll get in, especially considering how much the school looks for “fit.” Being a legacy is definitely a draw; I wouldn’t count on Brown but I would consider it a high reach.

My friend’s kid did not get in with legacy status despite a 2300 SAT, 12 APs with a score of 5, and straight As. Please temper your expectations. Have you looked at Bard, Oberlin or Skidmore?

My youngest applied to brown ED with parental and sibling legacy, and was deferred (and eventually withdrew for another school that accepted him ED2). He had an overall A- average (3.7ish) with a 2260 SAT and 3 SAT2s: world history 800, US history 760, & literature 770. National, regional and state academic awards. (His brother who attended brown had slightly overall higher SATs, the same score range for SAT2s, and the same GPA but at a well known rigorous private school in the Bronx where his GPA placed him in the top 10%, whereas younger son opted for our local public NY high school and his GPA placed in him in the top 11-12%).

His GPA on his school naviance placed him as an outlier for brown (but he never had a grade less than B+ & took a rigorous schedule), so he didn’t think he’d be accepted RD after his deferral. But he still did well in college admissions (for example, accepted to university of California as finalist for full tuition merit award; to WUSTL as finalist for writing merit award; to ucla & umichigan; to Tulane with $120,000; and to tufts ED2), so don’t worry, just do your best. You may not get brown but you’ll be fine. Son has been so happy and done so well at tufts (better GPA than high school) that he’s had no interest in transferring, despite knowing how happy his brother was at brown. He’s found his own nirvana  and it’s helped him thrive.

Meant to write university of Southern California above.

@RenaissanceMom thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! I am also applying to a full ride scholarship through a program at my school, which if I get in I will most likely not be going to Brown. I do understand I will be happy anywhere, and I think its most important to find my own niche. I am so glad that your kids got into amazing schools and are having a blast!

@ScaredofSchool, wishing you all the best!
