I need advice on anythign I can do to get into Brown. It's been my dream school for a while, and when i took classes over the summer at it, I fell in love with everything about it
Here are my stats (Im a senior now):
GPA: 3.3 (UW)
Class isnt ranked (I go to an exam school and they think its wrong to rank us)
SAT: CR: 660 M: 800 W: 700
SAT II: Taking physics and math II in december Math I: 770
ACT: 31 composite (30 combined essay and reading)

Activities:
Summer at brown 2008 7 weeks 2 credit courses (got a B in economics and a Pass in English) Will this help my chances?
Robotics Team freshman and senior year
School Senator for all 4 years of high school
Tutored mentally and physically handicapped kids at a community house freshman- junior year
Helped at an elementary school afterschool program for all 4 years of HS
Business internship since freshman year
Lead youth religious group at my hindu temple
Math team junior and senior year
Biology Journal publishing senior year

My classes this year are:
AP Environmental Science
US Governement/Economics
AP Statistics
PHysical Edu.
Math Team
AP Literature
AP Calculus BC

In total, I've taken 3 honors courses (Physics, Geometry and English) and these 4 AP course listed above.
I know my GPA is a bit low, but what can I do now? Certain grades were clearly not my fault. For example:
Trig term1 and 2 I got a 80 and a 70, but the next year my grades for precalc were 92 and 95 and my grade in Calc was 101 (but I can only get 100 since GPA is unweighted)
I got a 3.5 and a 3.6 my junior year, but messed up my sophomore year with a 3.2 average. That brought my grade down.

Any advice on how to increase my chances as well as what my chances are is appreciated. Thanks so much for your help.

My counselor said that I shouldnt because I'm taking AP courses senior year for the first time. She scared me and made me thing I would be rejected, so I chickened out. A mistake I suppose. THX for the input NM, and hope you get into Sterns

I dunno, you didn't take any APs before senior year, nor was your GPA far too high. I think you have an average shot of getting in, unless your essays are excellent...Good luck!

Your counselor was right. Honestly, if you did not take your schools hardest class throughout, even with a 4.0, Brown probably wasn't going to happen. Your best chance for Brown will be to transfer.

Brown and other top colleges are very upfront with the fact that summer programs do not help in admission. Their creteria for summer acceptance is a far cry from regular admission so success in a summer class is not significant to them. To be frank, while you have a good math score, your other 2 scores are significantly below median. Combine that with a very low GPA for Brown and the fact you took no AP's before junior year and Brown becomes a phenomenal reach.

Do not be too worried, and people at CC shouldn't be so Stern because they are just normal people too. Everyone here should give constructive criticism. Well, Desi King, many people do not know the number one factor of getting into Brown is not the GPA, or even the SAT, it is the reason why you really really want to go to Brown. I went their for Summer@Brown for a one week program, and then a three week program, and if you really express your ideas to become a better student, and the fact you love Brown, you have a good shot. Do not let anyone on CC tell you otherwise. You have a chance!

Thanks NM, that really boosted my spirits. Now, should I write about why I want to go to brown in supplemental essay too? I mean using S@Brown 2008 as the 'academic experience?"' ALso, what can I do to improve my application??

There is no "Strategy" in college admissions. Its not a game. Its a process and I think people take it for something else. You are supposed to display yourself to colleges as you are, not with a heavy sugar coating. Because of people who hire others to do this, it makes it harder for normal people to get in. I never said I would adhere to the post made by NiraliMag, but it did in essence boost my spirits, which is exactly what I replied

My essay was originally going to be about summer at brown anyway. Actually it was the forerunner idea in my mind. I thought of a few fairly decent ideas, but none of them clicked as well as that one. Again, I dont have a strategy, nor do I need one. As most already said "i have a shadow of a chance" so why bother?

some people have to remember who they are talking to (high school students with high hopes) and try not to be so harsh.
i mean in truth, brown is an extremely hard school to get into, but that does by no means mean that you shouldn't try, it's not as if you're an awful student, who has no ec's. the truth is, everyone has a chance, and colleges are looking for the most driven inspired students to attend.

Should we stamnd back at let the OP write an essay about why she wants to go to Brown as opposed to what she has to bring to Brown? IMO if someone goes to the trouble to post they deserve an honest answer from those who have experience and knowledge.

Is delaying the dashing of high hopes until the thin envelope arrives benefiting anyone?

Desiking75- Ofcource you have a shot. Obviously the higher the stats the easier it is to get into an Ivy, but being below average on numbers isn't something that will ever immediatly take you out of the running. If you're meant to get in, and it's the right school for you, you'll get in :) Just try your best, and don't worry cause you'll end up a good college... :)

very honestly, your chances are 50/50 at best. but please do remember than because we can't see your essays and recs here, none of us can chance you with any sort of accuracy.

the best one can tell you is if you're still competitive - i.e. that you don't have anything on your profile that would lead to you being auto-rejected. good news is, you don't. bad news is however, that 99% of everyone who applies to brown won't have any such blemishes either. certainly some areas of your profile are not very strong (e.g. GPA & SAT) but i'm sure you're a smart person and that you've rationalized your decision to apply to brown well. in that case, you should have at least an idea as to what you'll use as your "main hook". work from there and when the decisions eventually come, we'll see.
