Hey guys I’m a current Senior in California
South Asian Male (Bangladesh)
First Generation
GPA: 3.8750 weighted, 3.5417 Unweighted
Class Rank:130/644 (9-12) 95/644 (10-12) 34/644(12) (highly competitive large school in the city)
SAT: 1340
SAT II: Biology E:710 (self prep) / Math 2:780
Never took AP Biology, only honors Biology freshman year.
AP courses completed so far:
-Physics 1-2
-US history-4
-Psychology-5
APs- This Year
-Micro/Macro
-Government
-Calculus AB
Standard Exceeded for both English and Math sections on the CAASPP (11th grade)
Since I took 7 courses for 3 semester instead of the usual 6, I will have over 40 credits completed than the requirements to graduate.
The only reason why my GPA is low is because I did not have the best start to high school. Started with a 2.6 GPA first semester of high school and finished junior year with a 4.3 GPA. Five week report cards have come out for senior year and I currently have a 4.5 GPA.
My intended major is something within the brain and behavior or even such as Neuroscience,Neurobiology, Biopsychology, and Cognitive Science.

Questions? Ask below
Hey @lowkeyveryhighkey ,
Are you premed?
I am also premed from CA (also South Asian, what a coincidence!)
Anyways, I think you can get into all the CSU’s.
UC’s are a lot harder, and I am also trying to get into them too.
UCLA- reach (high)
UCSD- reach
UCSB- reach
UCI- high match/ low reach ?
UCR- match
I think you can get into UCR for sure. It is also little less competitve for premed which is kinda good. However, it is hot and more boring than other UC’s.
Others are hard to get into.
I have higher stats than you and I dont think I have a strong chance at any UC except UCR, but I wanna go to UCSB.
If I were you, focus on your essays a lot.
Also you basic extracurriculars, with only Premed Club relating to your major/ Science.
You have a low GPA and SAT as well.
If i were you, study hard for SAT and get like 1450+ and 1500+ for harder UC’s atleast.
Good luck…
An upward grade trend is helpful. UC GPA is a bit on the low side but your SAT test scores on are on target. Your SAT subject tests are very competitive. You have good EC’s and leadership positions definitely help.
Cal Poly SLO and SDSU do not have any of the majors you are interested in pursuing, so what to plan to major at these particular schools?
UCLA should always be considered a Reach.
The data below is not major specific but gives you an idea of your chances based on UC GPA:
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCLA: 14%- Reach
UCSD: 44%- Low Reach
UCSB: 54%- High Match
UCI: 65%- Match to High Match
UCR: 94%- Low Match-Safety
SDSU: Low Match-Safety (which major?)
SLO: High Match- Reach depending upon major.
If you are interested in Neuroscience/Cognitive Science, I would add UC Davis as a High Match school. Cal state Fresno and Stanislaus offer Cognitive Science/Studies as majors and these would be solid safety schools.
