Chance me for CAS? ED Class of 2020

Hey, guys! I’m planning to apply to CAS ED for the Fall 2016 semester. I’m planning on entering as an English major, as I have interest in perhaps entering publishing or the like. I’m not sure how I stack up against other applicants, but I fell in love with Penn from the moment I stepped on campus, and it’s my dream to attend. I know my stats aren’t exemplary, but I’m hoping Penn might see how passionate I am about the school and learning and will potentially be lenient. Side note: I attend a small public school in rural Pennsylvania, so we don’t have a ton of APs or clubs, if that helps! I’ve taken rigorous courses throughout high school and have done independent studies of three classes: Geometry, Information Literacy, and Wellness.

Stats:
SAT Total: 1970 M: 610, CR: 690, WR: 670 (I know the score is low, and I plan on taking it again this fall.)
ACT: N/A
SAT II: I will be taking the US History and Literature tests this fall.
GPA unweighted: 3.82
Rank: 9/220 - top 5%
AP Classes: Sophomore - AP Calc (1) - awful class, but I worked hard to earn a B+ and I’m hoping this isn’t a deterrent
Junior - AP Lang (5), AP Psych (5), AP Stat (3), AP Gov (3)
Senior - AP Lit - tbd, APUSH, tbd

ECs:
-Varsity member of Cross Country, we finished eighth at States this past year
-Member of the track team for all of high school, assists with a track camp after school
-Class officer, elected secretary during freshman and sophomore year, then elected class president junior and senior year
-Member of student council for all of high school, elected representative to the school board
-NHS vice president
-Member of MHS and math tutor
-Link Crew member, a program that assists freshmen during their transition to high school
-advanced to States for a paper for National History Day
-work as a lifeguard at a local pool, also has managed the pool on occasion

State: PA, USA
School Type: Public, about 900 students
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female

That 1 in AP Calc won’t break you, but it’s obviously not a very nice element. It’s good that you’ve taken rigorous courses and have a decently high class rank, but your performance in those classes isn’t exactly stellar, based on AP grades and GPA. It’s not bad though.

SAT you know already, definitely try to superscore (fix that math score!!!). SAT subject test, if you do well, would be a nice plus.

Your EC’s seem fine, make sure you have killer essays and amazing recs and you have an ok shot at CAS. That being said, heed my advice above and really try to bring up your SATs.
