I haven't received any significant awards...I got the Rensselaer Medal...nominated for NJ Governor's School in the Sciences and other leadership conferences, including Boys' State

EC's

S.H.A.R.E. 4 years (community service club at my school, my top EC, i wrote about this in the common app activity blurb, the advisor of this club (who is also my APUSH teacher) is writing one of my recs, it should be pretty stellar)

Varsity Track and Field 3 years

NHS

Italian Honor Society

so what do you think?

someone tell me what's CAS :|

College of Arts and Sciences

GPA: 103.02 (i think...)

Sorry this GPA is a little too low, try SUNY Oneata

You have no chance at Penn.

You could be a tad higher on the M/CR SAT portions, but I don't think it will hurt as you're in the midrange for all 3 and have 2200 total. You could be either deferred or accepted...if your essays/recs are strong then I give you a strong 70% chance because penn loves vals. this is for ED. you will probably get owned in RD.

i would be applying RD.....why would there be such a big difference between ED and RD?

Because Penn tries to fill almost half the freshman class with ED, where this year only 3610 people applied. This year CAS ED will have a 37% acceptance rate for ED vs. last year's CAS RD acceptance at 17%.

well more people apply RD...so obviously the acceptance rate will be lower

i thought the general consensus was that those who apply ED are a self-selected group of excellent students, legacies, recruited athletes, etc. hence the large acceptance rate

i'm not sure about penn, but i've seen on other college websites where they explicitly state that a person rejected in the RD round would not have been admitted ED....so i don't see how there could be that big of a difference in my chances between applying ED and RD

can someone clarify this?

^ i see 30 kids from my school apply to penn each year, and i can tell you what i see. penn is somewhat predictable during ED, but a crapshoot during RD. during RD they are trying to protect the yield and identify who is really interested in penn, so a strong applicant can get rejected if they don't think he'll attend. not a bad idea on their part, as many people apply to all 8 ivies RD.

If your essays were good, you're in. No doubt about it.

pretty good chance ill say

thanks

bump, i'm also taking the ACT on saturday.....i got a 34 on my last practice test so assuming i repeat that...would chances improve?

bump, i got a 770 on math 2, still waitin on the ACT though

"GPA: 103.02 (i think...)
